The Last Picture Show (1971) watch along
After watching this movie, I was left with a dagger in my heart. No one even tried to pull it out. The melancholy was wrought throughout, and the nostalgia for the past was palpable. It was so interesting to see the adults talk about the past, and how the disillusionment of the youth became clearer as time passed. I got so caught up in the actions each character became entangled in. You could feel their loneliness, as well as the emptiness of the...
Misery (1990) watch along
Hey everyone!I am beyond excited to share my reaction to Misery(1990) with you! This one has been on my must-watch list for a while, so huge thanks to everyone who voted for it in the poll!Let me just say, I was not disappointed in the slightest! Kathy Bates absolutely deserved that Oscar – her performance as Annie Wilkes was haunting. And James Caan (I forgot he was Sonnyin The Godfather!) LOL.Yes, my brain is like a sieve sometimes! But the c...

Do The Right Thing (1989)
Before we jump into discussing Do the Right Thing, I just want to acknowledge that the film touches on some heavy and complex subjects, including race, social tension, and community struggles. My goal here is to engage with the movie in a thoughtful and respectful way, without getting too deep into politics or heated discussion. I know that everyone may have different feelings or interpretations. Let’s keep the conversation open, respectful, an...

Wheel of Wonder Spin # 26 Kramer vs Kramer
Congrats to the Winner!**********SPOILERS BELOW*********This Movie DESTROYED MEI always heard this movie was supposed to be great, but I didn’t realize it would be thisgood. I feel like I’m drawn to these types of films - ones that feel so authentic and really resonate on a deeper level. It’s all about the dialogue and the performances, without relying on flashy CGI or action sequences. Just pure, raw emotion that you can hold onto and feel...

Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942)
#98 on the AFI list! I had no idea what this was about going into it and I was pleasantly surprised! Glad to keep trucking my way down this list!!! Left everything in the outro!!!I can't wait to watch more James Cagney in other films! What a triple threat!!!!Please note:Just wanted to give you a heads-up that this movie has a scene that involves blackface, which is offensive and inappropriate. The film was made in a time when these kinds of ...
8 1/2 (1963) watch along
Where do I begin? This movie was a trip. Excuse my stream of consciousness at the end of this movie. It was a lot to digest, and I can't wait to sit through it again without reacting so I can soak up more of the dialogue, which at times was so beautiful and meaningful.Fellini throws so much at you, and technically this movie is so interesting and magnificent. The black and white contrast was mesmerizing, making every frame a visual delight. I ...
Gattaca (1997) watch along
Wow, I really loved this movie! The blend of thriller and mystery totally hooked me, and by the end, I was off on a full-on philosophical rant...so many thought-provoking moments.Visually, it was absolutely stunning, like watching art come to life on film. One of the coolest shots had to be that smoke swirling inside the glass-just mesmerizing. The whole tone and atmosphere were so cold and sterile, which fit the '50s-meets-future vibe perfec...

BEN-HUR (1959) watch along
Well....OK.While this might not be my best reaction or favorite film, I’m here for you if you're looking to check it off your list too. There are definitely some highlights worth appreciating: the sets and landscapes, the lighting and some of the shots, and of course, the chariot race. I found myself using the word “beautiful” a lot in the outro (it was late) because there aresome relatable and moving themes here. However, I think for m...
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) Directors Cut
Well. Steven has done it again. This movie truly touched my heart and soul. Whether you're a fan of sci-fi or not, the storytelling here is extraordinary, and to me, it's what filmmaking is all about. That’s a testament to the brilliance of Steven Spielberg. Yes, I may have a soft spot for all things alien, but this script and story go far beyond that. There are so many layers woven into it- a captivating journey filled with adventure, ...
