NEGATIVITY CANNOT BRING YOU POSITIVE RESULTS
It’s very easy to fall into a trap of gossiping and regurgitating the same negative energy over and over.
you might not even realise the time and energy you’re spending on it and tell yourself you’re simply “venting” because you have the right to.
while expelling negative emotions can be beneficial it’s important to stop this from becoming repetitive.
when a negative occurrence happens in our lives we naturally want to work through it in our minds and with our loved ones but there becomes a point where this goes from helpful to detrimental.
Helpful ways to work through negativity is to aim for resolution with your conversation, what upsets you about the situation? What can you do to feel more positively about it? Does this have to affect you?
When you’ve done that, if you find you’re repeating the conversation to the next person and the next person stop and ask yourself why. Are you hoping for different feedback? Reassurance your feelings are valid? A feeling of being part of a group that all feels the same? Additional information or opinions to reinforce that you’re “right” to feel so strongly?
Oftentimes the situations or people that are the centre of gossip simply need not be. They’re not prominent enough in our lives to induce such feelings or we already made steps to no longer have dealings with them. Acceptance that a person or situation has gone can leave a void even if they were a negative impact in the first place. This is because you used them as an outlet for your negative emotions which many of us use as distraction from other things that are making us feel bad in some way.
For example; someone who self loathes in private may use someone else to deflect their internal criticisms to and that can stop them addressing the real issue, which is of course how they feel about themselves.
when the person they use is removed from the equation, they’re left only with the insecurity that has been plaguing them throughout.
If you’re finding that actively avoiding regurgitating negative stories and emotions is leaving you with it much else to focus on or talk about them you could benefit from therapeutic input either through counselling or life coaching. It is very common and nothing to feel ashamed about but it cannot serve you well to dwell on things and people that aren’t bringing you happiness.
