New Year is an amazing time when the whole world pauses in anticipation of change and hopes for the better. I want to tell you about our traditions and the peculiarities of celebrating New Year in my country.
In Belarus, as in Russia, New Year takes precedence, whereas Christmas is celebrated on other continents. Here, New Year is a family holiday full of traditions and joy. We prepare with incredible dedication: for instance, every year the entire country prepares Olivier salad and herring under a fur coat, making wishes and throwing a burning note with dreams into champagne for the upcoming year. We eagerly await Ded Moroz (Father Frost) and rush to open his presents under the Christmas tree.
