He paced back and forth in his dimly lit apartment, glancing nervously at the clock as if willing time had come to stand still. Rent was due, and for the first time in years, he found himself unable to pay it. With the rising costs of living and his meager earnings from driving for Uber, he was short this month, and the reality weighed heavily on him.
Suddenly, a loud knock echoed through the small space, causing him to jump. He took a deep breath and opened the door to reveal Bossy Delilah, his imposing landlord. She stood confidently, arms crossed, a smirk playing on her lips. Her presence was commanding, and in an instant, he felt the familiar rush of anxiety wash over him.
“Well, well, look who’s a little short on funds this month,” she said, her voice dripping with disdain. “Did you really think I wouldn’t come knocking?”
Her tenant lowered his head, shame flooding through him. “I... I’m really sorry, Delilah. I’ve been trying my best, but—”
Delilah cut him off, her tone sharp. “Trying your best? Is that your excuse? You think I care about your pathetic attempts? You owe me money, and I don’t accept excuses.”
He fidgeted, his discomfort palpable as he felt the weight of her gaze. “I promise I’ll catch up next month. Just give me a little time—”
“mean... evict?”
Delilah leaned in closer, her smirk widening. “Oh, don’t play coy with me. If you want to stay, you’ll have to become my property. I’ll make sure I get my money, one way or another.”
He stared at her in disbelief, feeling the weight of desperation settle in his chest. “You can’t be serious…”
And “You’re in no position to negotiate, sweetheart. Your morals? Toss them out the window. It’s time to make a choice.”
He glanced around his shabby apartment, knowing he had no other option. With a defeated sigh, he finally relented. “Okay... I’ll do it.”
Delilah's grin was triumphant. “Good choice. Remember, it’s always better to be my property than to be homeless.”
What followed was an experience that would change her tenant forever. FYI He’s unaware of the kind of OBJECT Delilah intends to turn him into.
