As someone who didn’t grow up in a religious household but did grow up with a mean dad, it’s really cathartic to hear other people my age processing similar childhood experiences. Darby, I related so much to your description of feeling hyper vigilant in public, but I never really connected it with my dad until now. It has given me a lot to process in therapy! So thanks? Also I am trying to be less of a shut-in and do more stuff out in the world, so I started volunteering at the local animal shelter. It’s been a nice way to connect with people but still have cute dogs as a buffer.
