[RB2Shader] status on Teen Gohan/Shader .
🕑 Added 2025-01-30 18:32:35 +0000 UTCI wanted to get this up since I've been getting this asked a lot and I don't think I've communicated the status of the mod and its development very well.
For starters, I want to preface that Sparking Zero was made with cel shading in mind, so things like environments, lighting conditions, models and animations were specifically designed to work only with cel shading, by design.
So then in order to work convincingly, the shader needs to be able to adapt to rapid lighting changes (transformations, bright supers), has to not appear out of place on various different maps, needs to retain proper color, needs to still receive shadows, etc etc. And its all being done with a material parent in Unreal Engine.
Almost all of the work I put into this project is into solving these little stop-gaps that prevent me from just being able to apply smooth shading over everything.
The singles I've been dropping are the ones that just work luckily without any issues or touch-ups. As in, the dev's intentions don't clash with the mod and everything works well.
Other characters (like Teen Gohan), aren't as cut and dry. Like I mentioned, the devs literally morph the character model in certain scenes, in a way that's works, under the assumption that its using cel shading, but it breaks otherwise.
So some of these would require more extensive work that possibly includes editing the model/animation itself. This includes, like i mentioned, characters like Teen Gohan and some others.
I also want to clarify, I may have screens of works in progress up on my feed, that doesn’t mean they're presentable for a release. I'm just posting progress pics.
I'm not sure how i should track the status of each character and whether or not they're available, I might set up a pinned post or something to make it clearer for everyone.

As of now, my current plans for development are:
- addressing skin color issues (such as faces rendering slightly differently from body skin)
- reducing “plasticness”
- better adjustment to individual map lighting
- missing/grey textures for some

Goku (and most of the characters that show up in the Battle tab), are held back for now because of how blatantly mis-lit the scene is on the menu screen. They look fine in-game, but are otherwise not presentable in my opinion. I'd love to get them out and be done with it.

You should make an image panel showing the whole roster with completion marks, just to see what characters are finished, what characters are being done and what characters aren't touched yet.
