Cowboy Bebop - work in progress!

Hope you've been well! Here's something I've been working up - I wanted to try and revisit my approach to rendering more anime/cartoon aesthetics into some type of realism. Once I started working in this particular process I found that I could likely apply it to classic anime and make it look rendered without creeping over into uncanny valley land. So far I'm happy! I'm looking forward to taking the time to add the rest of the cast to this one, I think it'll come out pretty cool.
This has been one of the more successful approaches I've had with this type of rendition so I'm pretty hyped up to move forward. Now that I have some confidence in the approach I'm going to put together a tutorial video describing what steps I take to get to this stage.
Thanks as always for your support!

Can't wait for the tutorial. This is the kind of visual style I've been chasing for a long time. Love to see how you approach it

This looks just too good! This is a type of semi-realistic anime style , I'm trying to achieve. Looking forward to a tutorial

thank you all so much! I rarely feel super positive about a process and I feel this one is pretty dead on for what I want. I know I say that all the time, but, well, every time I say it I believe it haha. BUT - this time is different, I've been using this same approach to wrap up the Bloodborne piece and it just feels pretty versatile - this is definitely centered around brushes. Anyway, more to come shortly!

Omg I just realized the piece is about to get bigger haha. I was admiring the spike one and loving that 4 bar simple background layout. Now I realize it’s the ship engine streams. Fuckin awesome!

Huh. Nice! I was just drawing Spike Spiegel myself yesterday. And then the Netflix reveal. This piece is awesome! Any thoughts on the new show?

Beautiful ! The final render is really smooth and appealing 🤩

I can't help but think about those marvel covers that Moebius did of Spiderman and daredevil when I look at this. It has that chalky multimedia kind of texture you'd see a lot back then, except this has a way higher fidelity feeling to it. Beautiful stuff.

The texture of the fabric here is INSANE if I could marry his pants for being the most tactile piece of his outfit, I would. I also really like how the lineart is organically incorporated in the painting it really feels like a real-life watercolor/gouache combo. Can't wait for the tutorial, I'm so excited to see the whole process!

This style is dope! Reminds me of a combination of the Guts and Casca piece combined with the render of the Godhand group piece.
