Gettin' Solid - liquid & genome soldiers

Here's where I'm at as of this morning on the MGS piece. I'm pretty excited to finally add in Liquid and start rounding out the bottom with the extra genome soldiers. Baby steps, but it's comin along!
I'll work things in grayscale at this point forward having had some success with the look of it on Otacon from the previous post. What I end up doing with the b&w is laying it as a multiply layer over top a flat color with some textured brushes to add a bit of noise to it so it doesn't feel so digital. Then, over top, I'll add soft light and overlay layers to lose some of the muddiness that comes from using the grayscale as a multiply over colors. Once that's all done with the remaining elements(tank, helicopter, and of course Metal Gear Rex) I'm gonna paint over the whole thing and fix all the random messy brush strokes that are on the current colored characters.

Thanks! The benefits are really that grayscale allows you to focus solely on creating lighting and strong values which will then work with whatever colors you apply afterwards. It's much more time consuming to construct all the lighting while also juggling how you want all the colors to act together. It just simplifies the whole process and speeds everything up

So good dude, thanks for the tips also - I've been wondering how you make such magic. I've seen other artists do it too, I'm curious what is the benefit starting in greyscale?

If it weren't for the (for now) super perfectly white BG I truly wouldnt be able to tell its digital, I'm loving this traditional looking approach that u developed :DD
