Patron Read-outs - Give us your thoughts!
🕑 Added 2018-05-18 11:27:07 +0000 UTC Hey guys,We've had a crazy amount of love and support from you all on Patreon, to the point that we broke our expectations pretty quickly. We've already sold out of our pre-allocated 30 slots on having your name read at the end of videos, and in fact have done so for a while. In order to keep these sections interesting, varied and to please the people who have complained that they want to back us but can't get the reward, we're thinking of ways to (fairly) change this reward so that more people can get in on the fun.
As you've probably seen, our Patreon readouts are getting kinda long - sometimes 2 minutes long. We're thinking that it might be a good idea to do read-outs spread across the month, or every 2 weeks. We obviously love the support you guys have given and your feedback, so we want to be open with you all about it and see what you say.
Your names will of course still be included in the video, but won't be read every week. We would divide the readings depending on how many people decide to back at this tier, and anyone above the read-out tier would be read in every video still.

Once a month would be fine! I knew it was starting to get long when I saw the Fallout themed readouts! You guys have been so good with the readouts that once a month seems fair.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm completely fine with my name not being mentioned in the credits. I know it would need probably ~10 other people saying the same to make it so you wouldn't need to change the format, but if it ever makes a difference feel free to skip mine.

We had actually thought about that and the plan would theoretically be to keep anyone at the $25-35 tiers in every video regardless. We would of course go through the process of writing new desciptions for each tier. -Greg

So, I think that sounds like a fair idea. I think some people (including myself) might be inclined to increase their pledge to get their name read in every video, though, so I’m not sure how much it will help with the length problem.

Well then I guess if you do keep the patron readouts to every 2nd or 3rd video, make it so it's those videos which are read by a special guest like Barry Kramer or Scarfulhu, and also have them be the ones to read the names out. This way, backers will feel more special that a well-known YouTuber or actor that they may like or admire is reading out their name.

I do think that, at least for the immediate, a bi-weekly readout seems like the most fair means of providing for more people and satisfying those already pledging. Glad to hear you think this is still satisfactory <3 -Dazz

Sadly this idea only works in practice for a few videos; not consistently with the presentations we've already done. With limiting those ideas, we really creatively limit what it is we can create. The process of making the read-outs is already hard when we think of what we can work with. We believe people prefer the more creative side of the read instead of just being quickly blasted through. This is why we would look to reduce how many are in each instead of finding ways of cramming more in and reducing the quality.

I've been absolutely loving the call outs at the end. I would still be completely satisfied with the pledge if I was mentioned in every other video? Maybe make a second $10 tier of 30 or whatever number you decide and read people's names every other week?

You could still keep reading out names for each video if you were to make it more concise and quick. As disappointing as it would be to not have my name read every video anymore, you guys have really been killing it with the read outs lately, this does seem like a fair compromise to me.
