Ronnel subconsciously declined.
"Really? That's such a pity. By the way, I don't know your name yet. What do they call you?"
"Ronnel."
"Oh~ So it's Ronnel!"
....Little Ronnel? !
Ronnel suddenly had black lines all over his forehead. He shouldn't have talked to Hisoka. Immediately, with a dark face, he turned away to look for someone else.
Seeing this, Hisoka laughed twice, and noticing a candidate anxiously looking around alone, he couldn't help but purse his lips and walk toward him.
"Who should I find?"
Seeing that time was running out, Ronnel felt a little helpless.
"Hey! Brothers, you can't just leave me like this!"
An anxious voice reached Ronnel's ears, making him stop and look over.
"The two of you have teamed up, so what should I do?"
Among the three Amori brothers, the youngest, Amori, covered his head and shouted.
"There's no way around it, Amori. The examiner said you can only team up in pairs. You're getting older, so it's time to learn how to solve problems on your own."
Imori, the second eldest, couldn't help but lecture like an older brother.
"But I..."
Just as Amori was about to argue, he felt a pat on his shoulder.
"Well, do you lack a teammate?"
Turning his head, he saw Ronnel's sincere smile.
"It just so happens that I'm alone."
"Newcomer~" Amori resisted instinctively but then heard Ronnel continue,
"Don't think I'm a rookie. I'm not weak. I've made it to the 150th floor of Heavens Arena."
"The 150th floor of Heavens Arena?"
Hearing this, Amori's eyes lit up.
The three brothers often hung out at Heavens Arena to earn Jenny for living expenses, but their best record was reaching the 170th floor, purely by luck.
It seems this rookie is stronger than he looks! No wonder he dares to take the Hunter Exam!
Amori rubbed his hands with joy and then slapped Ronnel's shoulder familiarly.
"Alright, kid, you've got good instincts teaming up with me. Don't worry, Uncle Amori will get you through the first round, hahaha!"
Ronnel smiled noncommittally at the bravado of this guy who seemed only slightly older than himself.
Ten minutes passed quickly, and all the candidates had already formed teams, a total of 200. As for the unlucky one no one wanted, he was naturally kicked out.
He was driven away through a safe exit in the wine cellar.
"Now that teams have formed, I'll explain the test."
"First, the first half. Candidates must form pairs. To pass, keep your own number plate and take the number plates of two other candidates. That's how you pass the first half."
The yellow-haired, black-eyed examiner, with a cigarette in his mouth, raised his palm, holding up four fingers.
"In other words, you must hold four number plates total, while ensuring the two on you are not taken."
"Only when two members of the same team bring four number plates to me will they pass."
"That's the rule. How you go about snatching number plates is up to you."
Having said that, the examiner clapped his hands and sat down on the steps.
"Let the quiz begin!"
With those words, the atmosphere immediately shifted.
"A number plate snatch? In the Hunter Exam, this is common~"
Whether it was the 287th Hunter Exam or the 288th where you pass by collecting five number plates, it all came down to number plates.
"A number plate snatch? This test again…"
Sensing the growing tension, Amori shrank his neck.
"I should contact my brothers first, and then..."
"Bang! Bang!"
Before Amori could finish his thought, he heard two soft noises by his ears.
Instinctively, he turned toward the sound—and froze.
Not just him, but all the other examinees who glanced over were equally shocked.
"Sorry for disturbing everyone. These two tried to sneak up on me, so I handled it."
Ronnel said with a smile, loosening his grip. The rookie assassin Tonpa, foaming at the mouth with eyes rolled back, and Sommy, who was unconscious, collapsed limply to the ground.
Both had clearly lost consciousness.
"That's Tonpa, the rookie killer…"
Some veterans whispered among themselves, glancing at Ronnel, no longer with contempt but with fear.
Taking down the notorious rookie killer Tonpa in the first round.
This rookie is no joke!
Amori also stared at Ronnel, dumbfounded.
"This… Is this really someone from the 150th floor? No, he hinted at being stronger than that!"
Thankfully, Amori wasn't a fool. He quickly put things together, and his view of Ronnel shifted entirely.
He recalled what he had said earlier to Ronnel…
gulp
He swallowed nervously and awkwardly shuffled forward with a smile.
"Uh…"
"Ah!!!"
