I think "big" is a visual idea rather than a measurement. It would be necessary to make an experiment were you ask a bunch of people to arrange animals according to their bigness. My hypothesis is that it will boil down to the surface area of their siluethe.

Assign values to the dimensions, ex. 1 point per inch tall, 1 point per inch wide, 1 point per inch long, and 1 point per Kg. Highest score = "biggest".
