Chapter 7 The Nest
Storm’s recent activities reached The Light. “What are we gonna do about this?” Lex demanded.
Vandal Savage, Lex Luthor, Queen Bee, Klarion, Brain, and Ra’s al Ghul. They were the key members of the Light with a few of their enforcers present.
“This White Beetle, this Storm his powers are…” Queen Bee began.
“I’ve sent in agents to see the victims of their power, and they are...odd.” Savage explained.
“They are completely blank, their minds, their hearts, even their souls.” Klarion said. “If they were to die, they would experience neither heaven nor hell.” Teekl meowed. “I know Teekl, there’s worse fates for mortal souls but I’m explaining so everyone else can understand.”
“He took down Superman, one of the League’s heavy hitters like he was nothing.” Lex was pissed.
“Are you sure you’re not just angry that it wasn’t by your hand the Superman was slain?” Ghoul said.
Lex glared at him.
“Could we not just withdraw and allow the Storm to consume the heroes.” Brain proposed.
“We cannot!” Savage said. Simply destroying the heroes would cripple the Earth’s power in dealing with grander threats. The heroes needed to be brought into the Light one day, or appropriate replacements be made, only then can they be destroyed.
“Perhaps if we extend an olive branch. Wasn’t this Storm able to control Superman, in a way far beyond what we were able?” Queen Bee proposed. “We joined hands with the Reach didn’t we?”
“When we joined hands with the Reach to take their technology, we had plans for dealing with them if they turned on us or if we no longer needed them.” Savage countered. “We know nothing about this Storm, and we don’t know if we can handle him if he decides to act against us…”
“Hmm, not only is he an unknown alien, but with the scarab he has unbelievable offensive and defensive power.” Brain calculated.
“Klarion, if things went south could you handle Storm?”
“If I brought the chaos?” He rubbed his chin.
“Meow!”
“Hm?”
“Meow…”
“You mean they are…”
“Meow!”
“Hmmm!” Klarion had a puzzled look on his face.
“Is there a problem Klarion?” Savage eyed him.
“Let’s just say I’d be your best bet against that freak.” That didn’t quite answer the question. “However, if you want to strike a deal with them you’ll have to give them a proper offering.”
Klarion waved his hand and opened a portal, from the void appeared a tube containing Match. “Sacrifice this pawn, and we can gain a powerful ally, and this pawn could be changed into a powerful knight!”
Savage felt something was off, what did Klarion know? “Let’s put it to a vote!”

“I don’t believe this!” Megan was pissed.
She had checked Superboy’s room, Jaime’s room, Virgil’s room, even Beast Boy’s room had been cleared out. “Something wrong Megan?” Tim asked.
“Where is he?” The boy jumped.
“Who?”
“Nightwing...Black Beetle...ugh whatever he’s calling himself now!” She crossed her arms. “I know you know where he is, I demand to know!”
“I actually don’t know where he is?” Her eyes glowed. “I swear I don’t! He told me he was working on a place for Team Beetle to call home. I don’t know where it is, just that it’s called the Hive.”
“Ugh!” She stomped off.
“What is her problem?” Tim sweats.
‘Even if Aqualad approved of this, I won’t stand for it!’

“Whoa!” They boys had been brought to their new secret base.
“We built it!” Referring to himself and his Scarab, Dusk! “Dusk has access to Reach Knowledge, combined we built a base, with security systems to counter them if they ever come back, no back doors or trojan programs.” Nightwing opened the door. “Also with White Beetle, made it so even other scarabs can’t find this place.”
“Why did we have to keep it secret from the Team?”
“Also because of White Scarab, we don’t know how far their “purification” gets they could control people maybe even make them spill secrets.” Superboy said.
“The scarabs can help protect our minds, so that’s why we have to bring down White Scarab. Plus give us the power to match him.” Team Beetle would focus on stopping Storm before assisting with other Team or League activities.
“So if the other members of the Team or the League are caught by Storm, anyone who knows where we are will be a problem.” Jaime explained.
“The keys I’ve given you resonate with your own personal scarabs, they’ll find them if lost and won’t activate for anyone but you.” They were taking the main entrance currently.
The Hive was broken down like this, it had land and sea entrances and exits, with Boom tech. A common area, a kitchen, a dining room, a floor for their personal rooms, a floor with showers, a room with hot baths, a pool, an indoor track, and a gym, another floor for more enhanced hero training with heavy reinforcements for power usage, a medical room. A pleasure deck for stress relief and relaxation. There was also safe room, with supplies to last 3 years. “I tried to think of everything!”
“Whoa!” Beast Boy’s eyes sparkled.
“This is so cool!” Impulse exclaimed.
“You guys can stay here for as long as you want. I definitely wanted it to feel like...home.”
“Looks good to me...though so long as I’m with you, any place is home!” Superboy hugged Nightwing and the two shared a kiss.
“Wow!” Jaime muttered.
Ed and Tye blushed. Virgil tried not to look, not wanting to have “strange thoughts”. He’s been having them more and more since training with the beetles. All the naked training has been invigorating but it was more than just a peek inside the showers or locker room.
“Feelings of arousal are totally normal towards attractive partners.” Shock said.
‘But I’m not...shut up!’ It could be almost scary to have someone on your back who knew you so well, maybe even better than you knew yourself. As much as he denied it, he liked the manly bonding. At his school and in his stomping grounds he has one male friend, and a bunch of guys at school that’d love to see him under foot. Guys who’d beat him up if he had any “strange thoughts”. It’s left with a bit of a complex emotion system. ‘I just need to get me a girlfriend, that’ll help!’
He took a peek at Nightwing and Superboy who were still making out. ‘Arousal detected!’ Shock pointed out.
Static wanted to curse, but held it in.
Jaime and Beast Boy were looking thirsty, while Impulse had a look like he was getting ideas.
“The hive is all ours.”
“Like our own private place...sweet!” Green Beetle said.
“So when do we go after this White Beetle?” Virgil asked.
“I stuck him with one of my tracker beetles, but the signal went out, either he’s out of range or in a place jamming the signal. If it’s not been discovered it’ll alert us if Storm resurfaces.”
“When he does, we take him down hard!” Conner said, punching his fist.
“Not too hard, we do need to capture him and find out how to undo what he’s done to his victims.”

Storm had been recovering, he hadn’t been expecting to meet resistance. He had to recharge his energy. Normally he could draw on his purified to empower him but things happened so it took time. “Hmm?”
Suddenly a chaos portal opened and Klarion with Savage and Match’s container appeared. White Scarab stepped out of his stasis field. “Greetings White Scarab, we are The Light, here to make a deal!”
“Oh, you wish to be friends.” He floated out and as soon as he touched the ground he released his power intending to take the two.
Klarion’s magic held the effect off. Storm narrowed their eyes. “You are unclean and impure!” He hissed.
The chaos lord bowed with a smirk. “Charmed!”
“You know this being?” Savage wanted to groan.
“You travel with the unclean one, and yet you call yourself the Light?”
“We have an arrangement. It can serve us all if we work together?”
White Beetle attacked their barrier, but Klarion’s magic held up. “Work with the impure, never!”
“A truce then, we can give you a peace offering, all we ask is that you do not involve yourself with our business. If you like this offering we can get you more.”
“Why do I need you?”
“Klarion…” The demon yawned and used his magic, he destroyed the beetle tracer.
“What was that?”
“A gift from the one who bested you before, young heroes who would have discovered you had you left your sanctum.”
White Beetle pulled back. “We can get you offerings, plenty of offerings so you can increase your strength.”
“Why help me at all?”
“Because I know there are beings who have not seen the Light, you can help them with that. You are also a scarab, which means you have abilities that could help us, perhaps if you pardon our people from you powers we can remove those that might cross you, even give you security.”
White Beetle pondered this. “Show me your offering.”
“His name is Match, and he’s a clone of the Superman you fought before.” Savage opened the pod, and Match woke up.
“Raaaaaaaa!” He flew into a rage and lunged at Storm.
Storm caught him easily. “Yes...this one full of rage, so much pain, your body burns and suffers. I shall give you peace.” White Beetle’s power washed over Match, affecting him mind, body, and soul. The markings appeared over his body, the scar he gave himself healed, but was replaced with the markings forming the S mark instead.
Match began to pant and drool, his mind empty of thoughts, his body purged of all impurities, his soul stained white. “Such a wonderful offering...very well...as long as you keep the unclean one out of my sanctum we have a bargain.”
“Fine, we have a deal, we can bring you more offerings, we just need to know your location.” White Beetle gave them the coordinates and waved them off.
The left Storm with their current thrall.

“Klarion what is that being?”
“A Purein, they live in a totally different part of the universe.”
“If you knew about them why didn’t you warn us, you seemed concerned.”
“Well the chaos lords and lords of order have found them too dangerous. Their world is not possible to destroy or save, that’s because of their collective song, it rejects both chaos and order. To them we are the unclean and impure, to them the lords of order are the unnecessary and unwanted.”
Savage was a bit concerned by that. “You can handle them right?”
“Of course! It’s only one of them, their strength lies with their chorus of songs, just killing one purein will be easy peasy lime squeezy!” Teekl meowed. “Lemons whatever he knew I meant lemons.”
Savage had a bad feeling about this. A part of him believed he should just report to the heroes and tell them about White Scarab, but given the scarab’s power who knows how many would fall before if they were taken down. Klarion might be able to kill the purein, but he’d have to bring the chaos to do it, which...has been problematic in the past.
He hoped making this little treaty would be helpful. Little did he know what kind of dangerous game he was playing.
