Stephen King liked this ending more than his own.
Steven
Good movie trash ending just my opinion
Smoothjazzsundays
I can’t remember if you’ve done a reaction to the shining, another must see Stephen king adaptation

Scary thing about this Is something like this could have happened and we wouldn’t even know about it. It would just be some little town that they wiped off the map and killed everybody.
Brian Burkhardt
I think it was also a commentary on the Iraq war. This came out when we were still deployed in the Middle East, and with that vocalized score toward the end and the military showing up to save the day only after all the death and sorrow the parallels seemed obvious in theaters.

This movie feels like a take on the Heroes Journey denied. A quick rundown if you don’t know what the Heroes Journey is: a hero gets a call to action- something that calls on them to step up and face a struggle and in doing so they begin the path of becoming a hero. The call to action here was the woman wanting to go back to her kids in the beginning and nobody chooses to go with her. Nobody answers the call to action. In the end it’s shown that she survived, meaning if the main character had gone with her and taken his son they probably would have both survived too. But he chooses to stay out of fear for his and his sons life, and that dooms him to the final scene. The call is denied, and no hero is made.

Rewatching this again, I had forgotten that Billy made his dad promise that no matter what he wouldn't let the monsters get him. Unfortunately he kept that promise. :(

They were going to kill a little kid. It was justified.

It's hard to have anything to say after that ending. I needed like .... an hour before I could even talk to anybody. Coming out of the movie theater, after the surround sound system made the helicopter during the credits sound like it was flying over the theater for REAL. Half expected to see it flying above the theater parking lot!
kenny mannino
Is that the dude from the punisher movie?
Glenn Burns
Well, that was horrific.
john harrison
Since we on to some scary/horror movies I would really recommend the fourth kind
Alec Hall

Not gonna lie, I hate this movie. It's phenomenal, and I love it, but that ending haunts me, and it's such an unforgettable ending that it tends to pop into my head out of nowhere. I love watching it, but I always stop right before they run out of gas.
Lex LaVey
Same director as Shawshank and Green Mile. Frank Darabont.
Degenerick
I remember being traumatized by the ending of this one
