I feel like you liked this episode, there's definitely a lot of moments in this series/Books that feel like they set it up just to shock or hurt the viewer, But I think a lot of things pay off well after the build up and is worth hanging in there. You will appreciate if more as the series keeps going and knowing more going Into other game of thrones related shows.

BENJEN STARK , the little brother of Ned Stark, we saw him in season one episode one and then a cute little kid version of him in Bran's visions. SEASON 1 - We met him as an adult back in the first episode when Robert came to Ned and asked him to be his hand, they had a massive feast and Jon was outside practicing with his sword being broody. He begged Benjen to convince Ned to let him come to the Wall, Jon loves and idolises Benjen actually. An episode or two later, when Ned and company head from Winterfell to Kings Landing, Benjen escorts Tyrion and Jon to the Wall. Benjen was First Ranger under Commander Mormont and left almost straight away after arriving to go Beyond the Wall. At that time Jon was still in training at the Wall at that time and had just met, or was about to meet, Sam. Benjen never came back from the ranging party and was assumed dead. SEASON 5 - In season 5's finale, Olly also used the lie of news that Jon's Uncle Benjen had been spotted alive o lure him outside where he was attacked and stabbed. So, yeah, we haven't visibly seen him (adult Benjen at least) in literally years ✌🏻

As much as the show might piss you off you are watching some of the best episodes right now. The final season of this show was really bad in my opinion, but don't let that stop you from making it all the way to the end.

Most people in the world have never seen a White Walker, and they are considered to be myth, fairy tales. If any messages went out telling people about them (which I believe at least King's Landing was sent a message at one point, can't remember), they still didn't believe; there's been no actual proof acquired. Even the Night's Watch didn't believe until they saw a dead man rise as one. It would be similar to people claiming to have seen Bigfoot (Sasquatch), or the Abominable Snowman (Yeti), or the Loch Ness Monster, or even more similar to people saying that Megalodon sharks still exist even though they died out over 3 million years ago. To 99% of the Game of Thrones population, White Walkers do not exist now, if they ever existed at all. We only know the truth because we are the audience watching it happen.

Uncle Benjen is Benjen Stark. Ned's brother. He was on S1E1 and traveled North back to the knights watch. Thus far I believe that was the only episode he was in. When Jon got there initially (to the wall), Benjen was missing as he had gone north of the wall with a ranger party and hadn't been heard of since. He's been assumed killed with the others
