It's literally the basis for his whole feud with Hector spanning across two shows. Also they implied, yet again, that Gus was gay in season 6 of Better Call Saul.

Actually it isn't fan fiction. It's implied in both Breaking Bad and then more recently in the final season of Better Call Saul. There is no actual scene of them proclaiming their love for one another obviously. But the implication is that Gus is gay, and that he never really allowed himself to open up like that again after.
