Furthermore his plan is that each apprentice should become strong enough to take down their master and replace them. Thus increasing the power level with each generation of Sith so that they could become powerful enough to carry out the plans of making the Jedi extinct.

Fun fact about the Sith since you wanted to know. This era of Sith started around a thousand years before Episode One by Darth Bane, who created the Rule of Two. Master and Apprentice. The idea is that Sith beforehand were weak and ineffective. But working from the shadows they could plan their revenge on the Jedi. If you could have two mother fuckers that could take down several Jedi then that is worth the title of being a Sith in Bane's eyes. Hence they take the title of Darth which denotes them as a Sith Lord, while the master is The Dark Lord of The Sith.
