Color me like one of your furry girls~
🕑 Added 2024-12-09 10:56:26 +0000 UTCTeaser for next weekends upload and showing off how I do color inks with colored pencils/crayons.
The five colors present are the palette I've chosen for skin and hair.
Basically I do use 2-3 colors for the base of a surface and then shade that surface with darker tones that construct shadows and light (the brown and cream ones being responsible for the body here, while dark blue on the shadows on the pillow).
I practicaly do not use black and white for shadows and light, in both digital and traditional art, and prefer on using dark browns or blues. I learned that basic white/black "flattens" the palette, while using other darker colors for shading, does make the image more vibrant and interesting for the eyes.
Another important tip I can give for anyone who would want to attempt using crayons/pencils (doubt anyone would, nowadays most artists are digital and use AI generated assistance), is to adjust the direction of your lines (drawings like this are mostly a composition of countless lines, not surfaces) to the object you're drawing.
That means, it's okay to draw flat objects with using flat lines, but objects that should be fundamentaly round or more complex shaped should be done using curved strokes to give the object a proper volume on the flat surface of the paper (compare the base lines on the pillow with the flat bed surface).

It's not that I totally don't use black color for shades, I do, but I use it for those very dark shadows. And even then it's core role is to enrich the blue/brown/purples I've already put down as the basic shading~

More "behind the scenes" posts to come, even if there isn't really that much to show. Still will give me some extra gallery posts for saturdays, as I need to cut down the number of new sketches I make and focus on finishing up what I can of the old ones... because some do lie and wait even before the 2020's time period, that's how much behind I am on them >_>'

Mam zestaw 48 kolorów, który kupiłem dawno temu jeszcze w liceum i służy mi już tyle lat, ale też dokupywałem kolory które szybko zużywałem, pojedyńczo w sklepach plastycznych. Kiedyś kolorowałem o wiele więcej przy użyciu kredek, ale im mocniej szedłem w detal, tym bardziej odchodziłem od nich. Grubość grafitu plus konieczność nakładania ich warstwami dla konstruowania przejść tonalnych sprawiała, że detal zanikał w ich teksturze. Obecnie preferuję pracę nimi właśnie na takich prostych obrazkach, gdzie jest więcej przestrzeni na długie pociągnięcia kreską.

To be fair, the pencil placement is more of "smart" censor bar for her bare breasts, since this image is an unlimited public post. But I'll be sure to snap a photo or two in a similar style, once I feel the need to color something in traditional media again :3

You know, looking at this again, I really like the aesthetic of, like, the top half of her being coloured, while everything below is still just inks, and the background is coloured. It creates a sort of.... "coming out of the picture" effect. A unique contrast where she seems almost seperate from the rest of the picture. I'm not sure how else to describe it, but, I kinda wanna see more. Specifically, the pencil placement acting almost like a transitional point creates this impression, and I really like it.

Przyjżałem się bliżej i to są chyba jakieś kredki Faber Castel? Ja nie dawno kupiłem zestaw 36 kredek w.w firmy a jeszcze kilka miesięcy wcześniej też 36 kolorów ale Polycolorów i... Ani razu ich jeszcze nie użyłem! Ale tę FC to kurwa grubo ponad dwie stówy! Trochę się szczypałem przed zakupem, no ale leżą sobie na półce, jeść nie wołają przecież. XD

First, you are cooking another great piece O.O And, thanks for sharing these tips, are very useful. When I put colours on paper I usually use copic makers, trying a similar approach for shading (but I use less shading because If I have to put colours, I prefer work more with the B&W inking to not need too much efforts on colours. Now I'm asking if these shading tips could works with the copics too. Anyway maybe I'll try back crayons too [And yeah, on digital I use too dark blue/brown for shading, give more vibe; once I've tried with a dark green but it was weird the result]

Thanks for the tutorial. I use colored pencils primarily and I never thought to use browns and blues for shadows.
