Update 4/30/22: Villains, Pt. 1/Asset Discussion
🕑 Added 2022-04-30 05:38:41 +0000 UTCHowdy! Sorry for the quiet, started an exercise routine recently (ironic, I know) and the lifestyle change really threw me for a loop. Kept meaning to post an update, but I'd be busy making art, then I'd basically just crash, haha.
So! First things first... Since my last update, I'd decided to 'finalize' the sprite sizes for Nanette. That is to say that, rather than make her sprites as I needed them--i.e., to match content for upcoming builds-- I'd just go ahead and make them all now. Now, there's a danger to this... A post last year had 'a final' size for Kui, the Main Character... And, well... Simply put, both the size of the sprite, and the quality of it, have been surpassed.
Or in other words... As I've continued this project, I've gotten better at making art assets, which is good generally speaking, but means a lot of earlier sprites will be of lower quality than more recent ones. And certain choices with respect to the various sprites sizes basically compounded, leading to a scenario where Nanette's ass may or may not be larger in one size than the whole of Kui at her equivalent. Which... isn't terrible, if I'm being honest.
If anything, it just means I'll need to make a sprite set for Kui where she actually *is* the fattest.
OH WELL.
Anyways, back to Nanette. I can't very well talk about making a 'final' size and not show it, right? Right!

Finishing up Nan will allow me to also make full sets for Charity and Priya, as they share the same body type, which effectively means I've finished spriting size sets for 3 characters, rather than just one. So that's something! (Although I haven't actually done the other two just yet.) I can (and will) also use these for NPCs like Carmen, or the GAIN enemies.
Now, to the headline; Villains!
FEF, in it's interactive form, didn't really have villains. This is partly due to the nature of community-generated content, but also, because, well... they're vore stories. The protagonist kinda *is* the villain... At best, there'd be other characters that threatened to eat the POV character. Bertha, whom you fight en route to Phoebe, is one such character.
Another example of these 'villains' is the Bulshinka sisters, a pair of greedy, cruel maneater inmates who've carved out territory within the cannibal prison of St. Hampton's. In the current build, you can see a special cutscene with them if you met Nanette while visiting the Ham; this is because the pair are the first of *several* antagonists Nan contends with in her Prison arc.
That said, they've been promoted to a more general antagonist force for the game, and you'll have to deal with them upon return to the prison in Phase 3.
The Bulshinka sisters are given free reign to do as they please, as long as they obey the true power of St. Hampton's, the mysterious Warden.
But how would anyone control a pair of vicious blobs like them? What kind of person would even run St. Hampton's the way it's currently run, where life is survival of the fattest?

Oh gosh, you make prison sound awesome! Er... from the outside. Always means a lot that you're willing to talk the artistic process and how you think about approaching the source material in this way. And it's actually kind of cute the way the twins look so much alike but just slightly different!
