BC/BS hates CGMs, you have to practically prove you'll die without one before they'll even partially cover it. But then for me they also only cover one brand of glucose meter with its attendant lancet and test strip, so I can't expect too much I suppose. I really don't understand it, for me personally I am *far* more likely to look at my phone regularly than I am to pull out a test kit and go through all the finger sticking and assorted crap. Plus the CGM will let me know when I'm too high or too low without me having to test to find out. (I actually have a FS3, I forgot that I had upgraded several months ago.)

In more civilised jobs in more civilised countries, vacation time is guaranteed. You should take at least 2 consecutive weeks every year to recharge and refresh. I would suggest 6 weeks spread across the whole year. Obviously for us fans it would be nice if you got guest strips or pre-drew some stuff, for some of that time, but if you didn't we would still cope and would be back for more when the vacation is over. Relax Jeph, you more than earned this.

@JCfromNC • Dexcom is pretty good. Libra Freestyle 3 is continuous; 2 is technically not as it requires you to actively monitor it, and I know with Blue Cross & Blue Shield, that’s what they want you to do. They think true continuous glucose systems will generate a set it and forget it mentality. (And they aren’t totally wrong about that.) Maybe see if your insurance company will allow you to upgrade to 3.

I love my CGM. I just wish my insurance also loved it and would help pay for it, so that I could afford to use a DEXCOM. The Libre Freestyle II leaves a few things to be desired, IMO.

Man, I've been reading your comic for a few years now, and even went back to the very first one and read them all in order when I first started. I loved every one of them and couldn't wait for the next one! That being said, take all the time you need. It's really helpful to rest and relax to recharge your creative batteries, so that just means the wait will be at least 7x worth it later on!
