Bah, I want to make sure people who replied to me see this, but afaict I'd have to reply to each message individually and I'm not willing to do that. In the 1960s, there was a haircut that my mom's hairdresser called 'a Sassoon', named after Vidal Sassoon. It was a crewcut, but with a small bit of styling for girls. IIRC, I was 10 before I convinced my mom to stop giving me that cut and let me try to take care of my hair. Because she didn't want to deal with taking care of long hair on a kid.
