Speaking as a non-astrophysicist who is a computer researcher who has worked in astrophysics, there is actually a way to use blackholes to do calculations. You don't actually put anything -into- the blackhole, you surround it with a ring. Then, you can fire lasers near the event horizon and slingshot the light back out to an analog receiver. An event horizon is a perfect sphere, so this means you an do perfect calculations based on pi down to Planck length at nearly instantaneous processing!
