It happens to be this, in this particular case, but he’s like this in general. I don’t necessarily think his ignorance is equivalent to sexism, but there could absolutely be a lack in my understanding of sexism.

I think the way Sabrina takes in the public opinion is very current! I think Taylor’s distance from social media is partially due or the age/time that she became famous. She didn’t grow up with the internet in the way Sabrina did, which is I think what Sabrina is saying. I think she mentions other celebrities cutting themselves off as a way to highlight that she’s been exposed to this lifestyle and the internet (and therefore trolls/keyboard warriors/haters) longer than a lot of current celebrities have. I think that her lens is completely different from Taylor’s and it’s not good or bad, just different. I also think, while level of fame is important to consider, that level of fame isn’t totally relevant to her current coping mechanisms. Obv everyone takes things in differently. Whatever celebrities need to do to get through the insanity that is their lives (as long as not harming others) is completely valid!

I have a tendency to perceive anything that might be sexist as if my existence is in danger. When it’s actually just some guy having a very narrow and boring way of thinking. He’s limited and it sucks, but it’s not dangerous to me. I guess I’m just trying to create that complexity and not limit myself from fear. I only saw his scores for ttpd and avoided whatever he had to say, so you know more than me, but I think, for my mental health, I have to say that “revel in hatred” is an exaggeration. I’m not saying that it’s not true, but for my sake, I’m going to believe that he ridicules things he doesn’t understand, which makes him arrogant, and yeah, he’s pretentious, but I don’t believe he hates her, at all. He just doesn’t understand it.

Oh that’s fantastic because their situations are so similar and yet so different. Makes me cry a little that Chappell has a person in her life - particularly a woman - who can completely empathize with her because knows at the soul level what it feels like. They are both direct and to some extent fearless about speaking their truth. This is all new to Chappell and she is feeling her way. I am rooting hard for her. Thank you for your response!

I've heard that Sabrina has actually gotten in touch with Chappell to talk about their respective crazy rise to fame. And it makes so much sense- a quick rise to fame sounds incredibly difficult to navigate. I think when you become famous little by little you start figuring out how to work and how to separate your personal life from your on-stage persona, you start navigating fan interactions on a smaller scale, your schedule increases bit by bit which gives you time to hire people and outsource certain aspects of your career. It would be stressful for anyone, and even more with someone who struggles with their mental health because the media doesn't really care about your boundaries and your needs. You have to be the one to set them- and you can't know how to from the beginning. And this is without even considering the pressure that "making it" overnight puts on someone's private life. You get all this money, and all these opportunities, and if you want to reign it in you're suddenly potentially disappointing people in your life because from an outside perspective who wouldn't want this?

Sabrina talking about having to learn not to lose pieces of herself reminds me very much of Chappell Roan, who has spoken up about actually considering whether she wants to keep driving her career forward, because it’s hard to hold on to who she is. I’m very interested in Chappell in part because I have a bipolar daughter who has told me that literally when she wakes up she thinks, “I wonder who I’m going to be today?” She already feels like her identity is somewhat fluid and not entirely within her control. I know my daughter would not be able to cope with any significant level of fame.

I think in a lot of cases he doesn't have mean intentions but he was literally called out on X for being biased against Taylor and being a hypocrite and he admitted it with sarcasm. I could not watch his review of TTPD because it was some of the most arrogant, sarcastic, and intentional misunderstanding of a female artist I had ever seen. For whatever reason, he extremely dislikes Taylor Swift and he has never been able to provide any sort of reasonable explanation. He revels in the hate against her.

more interviews reactions please i love it ! i think about taylor as well when i watch videos like this, she def does't have the same level of fame that the new girlies have which make sence they're new, also times has changed so much, like Sabrina was 15 when 1989 came out for exemple - mindblown i'm old. Women were not perceived or aloud to do the same things back then. The term feminism was everywhere and at the same time i don't think we understand it like today (not to mention how Taylor came from the country world, very conservative). White feminism and internalised misogyny were and still are topics we' continue to fathom today , i know i am, but i'm glad to see a new generation of women being more open about all this. i don't really know why i went on a tengent but here we are. love to here more your thoughts on topics and interview like that. kisses and a croissant from France <3

Needledrop can easily see when a male artist is purposefully portraying themselves in a negative light, but when female artists do the exact same thing, he misreads it as endorsing their own actions (most likely due to sexist bias) and criticizes them.

I have thought this since I saw this interview the day the album came out. It makes perfect sense to me, based on some of the lyrics on Tortured Poets. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Sabrina was one of the people who got to hear parts of TTPD very early on. The heartbreak lyrics directed at MH don’t make it seem like she wanted him to remember her fondly when she was writing them. They make it seem like she wanted him to suffer like she was suffering. Relatable, for sure, and Sabrina’s reversal of a cliched sentiment to express that specific emotion is clever. Seems to be something she is quite good at.

i think part of the reason it’s so easy for taylor to still connect with her older work is because that work was still so successful. her second ever album won album of the year, so it’s probably really easy for her to see the worth and value in those songs bc the whole world sees it now and saw it then. whereas sabrina’s always had a loyal fan base, but never on the level taylor had even in fearless era. most casual Sabrina fans may not even know any of her music before EICS. other people connecting to your work is naturally going to affect how you connect to it as well.
