Derrick's Awakening - Chapter 14
🕑 Added 2023-02-12 13:00:02 +0000 UTCThere was one short, magical moment when he yawned and rolled over, still drowsy, giving a big stretch, where he forgot all about what was going on, where he was. It was just long enough to make it sink back in fully when his hands were halted by the bars of the crib behind him, and his movement made him newly aware of the cool, clammy squishiness of his diaper, with the weight of the world's most pleasant, cozy pile of bricks.
He'd thought, for that moment, he was back in his apartment, back being a boring grown-up, one who wore diapers at night for fun, and nothing more, who couldn't even get up the courage to go outside in them... Until he was given a reminder that he was none of those things anymore.
He was a little boy, one being cared for by his Nanny, who had to do anything she said. Not only did he not just wear his diapers to sleep, but all the time, he also had no choice other than to wear them any place she decided to take him... And, from the way they felt, it certainly appeared that he needed them.
Because he forgot, within the moment, that he'd done it on purpose, that he'd laid there in his crib and peed his pants intentionally. The memory came back quickly, yet, before it could, his heart started to speed up, his cheeks warming as he was forced to foggily wonder if he had, indeed, wet the bed, if he had gone too far into playing out this scenario, if he had awoken something inside himself that he might not be able to contain, if he might have to start having to wear diapers to bed every night, rather than doing it solely out of enjoyment...
But, in the space of a few of those heartbeats - and only that many thanks to how fast it was speeding up at first - he recalled the truth, and what had actually happened. He couldn't say he wasn't a tad disappointed, really, though just a tad... Knowing Mrs. Holland was somewhere in the house, ready to take care of him, was an excellent consolation prize, one that was, perhaps, even better.
Indeed, as if she'd sensed his awakening, or maybe had a baby monitor watching him, he'd barely had time to roll over onto his back, ponder if he should go back to sleep, see if he could capture that moment again somehow, before the door to the nap room cracked open, and she poked her head in.
"Hi, there," she smiled gently, catching his gaze, seeing his eyes were open. "Did you have a good rest?"
How could he say anything other than, "Yeah," considering how it had ended, how deeply under he must have been to achieve that? He nodded, too, giggling to himself.
"You did, huh?" she stepped inside. "Well, I'm glad to hear that, sweetie! No bad dreams?"
He shook his head, turning his head to track her as she moved across the room, opening up the curtains on the window a little more, letting in an extra sliver of sunshine, brightening up the room a bit more without the sudden jolt of a light switch turning on.
"That's wonderful," she told him. "I have some juice waiting for you, and some coloring books you can play with until it's time to go home. First, though, I'd better check your diaper."
Did she know? It was hard to tell... It always felt - especially today, interacting with her in full babysitter mode - like she was operating at a higher level than him, that she knew more than he did about anything and everything... He was certain, now, however, that he saw a twinkle in her eye, that she was holding back an even wider grin...
It was, he had to remind himself, not that big a surprise, really... His covers had slid half off of him in his sleep, and, while he was grabbing at them now, pulling them back over themselves, part of his diaper had been exposed, and Nanny no doubt had more than enough experience to recognize a soggy diaper on sight. Still, he hadn't caught her taking a look, giving his padding more than a cursory glimpse. Was she truly that good at it, or his diaper truly that soaked that she didn't need any more than that?
"You don't have to," he said bashfully. He was relatively sure she didn't, since she knew what she'd find already, but that wasn't what he meant. "I'm a big boy, remember?"
She chuckled softly. "I do remember, Derrick," she assured him, unlatching the side of the crib to lower it. "I have to check my charges when I get them up from their naps anyway, though. It's part of my job. It doesn't mean I think you're any less big than you are."
He couldn't argue with that, or, rather, didn't know how to, even if it felt like he ought to be able to. He bit his bottom lip, keeping his hands clutching at his blanket as he mind struggled to come up with a suitable response, before finally, as she glanced over at the window for a moment, apparently seeing something move outside, he snapped into action.
Hurriedly, he slid out of the crib, holding the covers over his legs for as long as possible, then, as he hopped to the ground and could no longer do that, switched his grip to the hem of his shirt, tugging it downwards, hiding as much of his diaper with it as possible. It was only afterwards, once he was standing there, beside the crib, that it occurred to him that he might have made a mistake, that whatever had caught Mrs. Holland's attention could have spotted his movement, turned to see what it was, and found him...
By then it was too late, and he was already free from the comfort and safety of his crib, for better or worse, squirming with anxiety and embarrassment as he looked up at his Nanny. "S-See?" he gulped. "I-I checked for you, and I'm fine!"
Mrs. Holland smiled patiently. "That was very thoughtful of you," she told him, kneeling down, Derrick's wiggliness increasing the closer she got to him and his diaper. "I think you might have missed something, though... You'd better let an expert handle this."
She gave him a wink, carefully wrapping her hands around his, moving them aside, letting his shirt bounce back to its normal length, exposing his sodden padding. "Uh-oh!" she cooed. "See? It's a good thing I double checked!"
Derrick gulped, feeling so tiny and helpless at how easily she'd seen through him, and swatted aside his fibs, as easily as she'd pulled his hands away from their task and left his diaper almost entirely on display. "I-I'm sorry," he mumbled, staring down at his feet. "I-I didn't mean to..."
"Oh, it's all right," she promised him, letting go of his hands to stroke his hair. "It happens all the time! Lots of little boys, and big boys, have accidents! I'm not mad at all... Or do you mean you're sorry you didn't notice?"
Derrick blushed, shrugged, too overwhelmed with emotion to know how to respond. She kissed him on the forehead. "That's okay, too," she said. "I'm sure it was an honest mistake. Now, you wait right here..."
She left him there, beside the crib, and stood up, flipping on the light at last and closing the curtain before taking him by the hand, leading him to the changing table. She helped him up onto it, producing a fresh diaper and setting it next to him. "I'm not mad," she reiterated, "but I'm afraid this does mean you're going to have to wear diapers from now on while you're here. That's just the rules."
He nodded, embarrassment starting to give way to elation. This was, after all, what he'd wanted... "I-I know, Nanny," he told her. "I-It's the rules..."
"It is!" she replied, beaming proudly down at him as she started to untape his diaper. "Good job remembering that, and not getting fussy about it! There is one other rule..."
"Th-There is?" he frowned, blinking up at her while she cleaned him up, the wipes comforting and soothing, straight out of the warmer she kept them in.
"There is," she confirmed, expertly sliding the diaper out from under him and replacing it with the new one. "Little boys who have to wear their diapers in my house also aren't allowed to go into the bathroom on their own. There are too many ways for them to get into trouble in there, so, for as long as they need their diapers..."
Mrs. Holland timed it all just right so she had him powdered, and was fastening the tapes as she spoke, leaving the final one to coincide with Derrick's disbelieving response of, "I-I can't go potty?"
"Of course you can go potty!" Nanny chuckled. "Don't be silly! You can go potty right here!" She gave the diaper a pat. "And, when your Mommy and I decide you're ready for potty training, I can go with you to help you use the big kid potty... Until then, though..."
Derrick was nervous, he had to admit... But there was also a tingle of excitement in his tummy at what this could mean. He did want to try it all, and if he was given no choice in the matter... There was something extra thrilling about that. And it was only when he was here, with her... It wouldn't be that hard to avoid until he was prepared... Right? "N-No potty for me?" he finished for her.
She looked into his eyes, making him feel as if she were reading him like a book, judging his reaction, ensuring that he was all right with this... And deciding that he was as she smiled and repeated, definitively, "No potty for you."
