Cara Proves Herself - Chapter 1
🕑 Added 2023-01-31 13:00:03 +0000 UTCA short story, commissioned by an anonymous Patron.
"Do you need a napkin?"
Cara blinked, glancing over at the girl beside her, who was already giggling to herself, clearly amused by whatever had popped into her head. It wasn't exactly surprising; that was simply how littles tended to be, not at all like mature 'tweeners, such as Cara. Of course, part of being more mature was humoring those smaller than you, so Cara rolled her eyes and asked, "What?", willingly walking into whatever nonsense this was.
"I just wondered if you needed a napkin," Amanda replied, snickering. "You know, to wipe off all that drool?"
Cara glared at her, regretting her decision. "I am not drooling," she told Amanda haughtily. "If anyone here was going to do that..."
"Really?" Amanda asked. "Because the way you're staring at Rick..."
Cara's face turned bright red. "Shut up!" she hissed, her panic only adding fuel to the fire of the little's laughter. "I am not!"
"If you say so," Amanda shrugged, turning back to her sandwich to take another bite. Cara let out a huff, watching the girl in annoyance, noting that she was eating peanut butter and jelly, not that she was surprised. They were all adults here, all working in the same office... Amanda was obviously the one being childish, teasing about crushes, and eating like she was still in elementary school...
What was worse, however, was the fact that she was right. Rick was so cute - even if that felt like the wrong term to use for any Amazon, let alone one as tall and muscular as him - and so gentle and sweet... Cara wanted nothing more than for him to ask her out, but every time she tried to hint at that, to mention how she didn't have any plans that weekend, or to compliment him a bit more than usual, he never seemed to notice, or think anything of it.
She let out a sigh, peering at Rick in the distance, then returning her gaze to Amanda, happily eating, oblivious to the bit of jelly that had dripped onto her chin. Maybe, Cara considered, if she wanted Rick's attention, she needed to do something to get it... And she might know just the thing to prove to him how mature she was, how big.
"Here," Cara reached across the table, picking up one of the napkins from Amanda's lunchbag. "I think you're the one who needs one of these." She wiped off the girl's face, to Amanda's chagrin.
"Hey, I can do that myself!" Amanda protested.
'Sure,' Cara thought. 'For now...'

It was a simple plan, really... All she had to do was wait for a meeting to be called where both Amanda and Rick would be in attendance, and then, very kindly, bring Amanda a cup of coffee.
Amanda was, to her credit, clever enough to question it. "What is this for?" she wondered aloud.
Cara chuckled, shooting Rick a look, as if she was commiserating over how silly the girl was acting. "It's coffee," she replied. "You've heard of that, right? I just thought I'd apologize for that little misunderstanding the other day at lunch. I overstepped my bounds."
"Oh," Amanda blinked, taken aback. "Well, thank you, I guess. It wasn't that big a deal..,."
"No, no, it was," Cara shook her head. "Go on, drink up. I even put in lots of creamer, since I know that's how you like it."
"Yeah," Amanda eyed the cup. "I appreciate that, but..."
Did she know?! Cara had also put the creamer in there to disguise the taste of the drug she'd dosed the drink with. "Sorry, maybe I should have let you do that yourself," she tried to laugh it off. "It's the same as mine other than that, I promise! You can taste both!"
She slid her own cup over next to Amanda's, though, of course, the little's nose wrinkled as she peered into it. To Cara's surprise, she picked it up anyway, took a sip. "Ugh, it's so bitter..."
Cara rolled her eyes. "Fine, hold on..." She locked eyes with Rick, letting out a chuckle. Honestly, she did prefer her coffee that way, too, so she didn't mind putting on this charade to give her an excuse for it, since she usually went with black coffee only during meetings, to show any Amazons that might be around, and might look into her mug judgingly, that her tastes were as mature as theirs.
She grabbed the creamer out of the fridge and brought it back into the meeting room, performatively pouring it into her cup, standing by while Amanda had another sip. "There, see?" Cara said. "Exactly the same."
She trotted back to the fridge to return the creamer, slipping into her seat right on time for the meeting to begin, watching smugly as Amanda drank her coffee, being sure to drink some of her own, too, to keep Amanda from getting suspicious.
If she'd timed it right, she would be able to twist the knife a bit, to demonstrate how caring she was. As soon as the meeting's break started, and Cara saw that Rick was hanging around, she asked, "Mandy, do you need to run to the bathroom while we have the chance?"
"Don't call me that," Amanda sulked. "And I'm fine..."
"Someone's grumpy," Cara winked at Rick. "I'm only looking out for you! I wouldn't want you to have to go in the middle, and..."
"I know when I have to use the bathroom, Cara!" Amanda grumbled.
"Oh, really?" Cara could barely contain her excitement. She'd never expected it to go this well! "If you're going to act like that, young lady, maybe you need a little attitude adjustment before..."
She grabbed Amanda by the wrist, pushing the smaller girl against the meeting table, starting to bend her over it, just to be stopped by a hand around her own wrist. "Hey," Rick told her, gently yet firmly. "If she says she's all right, then she's all right."
"B-But Rick!" Cara whined, feeling a pout beginning to form on her face before she could halt it. "She's a little! She doesn't know...!"
"Don't be like that, Cara," Rick lectured. "Not every little needs that sort of guidance."
She was both surprised and not to hear that kind of modern attitude from him; he was an Amazon, but as nice as he was, it did make sense that he'd feel that way. It made him even more attractive, if anything... And made her eager to move on with her plan, to show him that Amanda was, indeed, a little who did need her help, and prove that she was quite capable of providing it.
"You're right," she smiled. "Do whatever you think is best, Mandy."
"I will," Amanda glowered.
It was difficult to sit still, once the meeting started back up, sure that it would be any minute now that the drug would kick in. She kept staring at Amanda, watching her every move, fidgeting with excitement whenever she spotted a twitch, or a squirm, certain that would be it.
Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. There was no way Amanda could have held out this long... Probably - she was a little, after all - she was so used to having accidents, that was why she wasn't reacting further, but she must have had one by now!
"Uh-oh, Mandy!" she announced, as soon as there was a lull in the meeting. "Did something happen in your pants?"
"What are you talking about?" Amanda asked, frowning.
"Come on, Mandy," Cara cooed, getting to her feet, reaching into her purse to pull out the diaper she'd brought. "Stand up and let us all see."
