The dichotomy between 'Good' and 'Evil' that we're seeing here is very much like that in Practical Guide to Evil. In Guide, those who are 'Good' do what the angels tell them they're supposed to, while those who are 'Evil' have are given enough rope to hang themselves with instead of a guiding hand. A good deal of the struggle Cat (the MC of Guide) comes up against is that she's trying to save her country, and doing what is 'Good' would lead them to ruin. One particularly poignant moment is when one of the Squires faces the Black Knight who is trying to protect her people, and is being pushed towards becoming the White Knight (which would force him to kill her), but rejects it, deciding that 'It isn't a question of Good or Evil, it's a question of 'what is right?'' which breaks the pattern of three between them, and he becomes the Knight Errant instead. Yorrick and the Empire are the kind of Evil that makes sense. It's individualism versus communalism. It isn't about doing harm or being malicious-- it's more... 'do as you will, and live with the consequences.'. Everyone is held to account by the results own actions, rather than a higher power. Personally, I think I would have much more in common with the 'Evil' people in the story. Individual agency is worth more than someone justifying their actions as the will of a higher being, in my book.

I have to say that I do sort of agree with Yorrick’s views. I mean there should definitely be options for ppl who don’t want to fight. I feel like that sort of society requires a sort of socialism government. Some basic amenities offered to everyone & then the more effort you put in the more amenities you have access too. Like have various Tiers that represent your drive towards leveling & tiering up. People who give up or don’t want to level up at all can live in little villages that only come in during Tides but the rest of the time they are on their own except for extreme situations or war time. And then different tiers allow for more access & resources & Etc.

I’m pretty sure it was mentioned before that Bob “asked” Monroe if he wanted to Tier Up & got the sense that Monroe did not want to at that time. Perhaps I misunderstood the scene but i believe that’s what happened.

Mr. Bigglesworth

With the advent of sapience, the Great Feline Overlord will instantly learn the value of his weaponized magnificence and no deli meat will ever be safe, again.

>"But I'm afraid that if you don't take the steps necessary to ensure you grow in power, that you'll eventually have your own blood-stained monument." "Oh yeah, we've got quite a few of those ourselves." . I hope the MC stops tip-toing around the bush and finally tiers up Monroe. Denying sapience to a creature feels like a dick move. It's like a parent going: "I know what's best for my child!", locking them in a room, only letting them out when they're 18 and it's become an inevitability. Also, sapient Monroe is gonna be hilarious. .
