Waaaait just a second.... > Science hadn't yet been able to unlock the mysteries of instinctual behavior, What??? That's not a mystery! Check out neuroscience -these days conveniently available in easily digestible and still very thorough form e.g. in online courses (often free, e.g. Medical Neuroscience rom Duke, very good course, can recommend, great professor as lecturer too). Check out the thoroughly documented mechanics of basic reflexes, e.g. the knee-jerk reflex,, which only involves two neurons in the spinal cord. Instinct is similar, just up in the brain and a lot more neurons involved. Even if we don't have the exact neurons involved, unlike the simple reflex case which may not be the exact same ones in every human anyway, the mechanics of how we get from the input (signal from ear and-or eye neurons) to output (signals to muscles, body does stuff - can be muscles in the head, e.g. for making sounds, or to arms and legs. Those are much simpler, therefore faster and not directly controlled by consciousness, circuits than those involved in conscious behavior. The latter may be able to influence the former though, those connections are not entirely separate after all. You may hold your breath, for example. I'm sure some guru somewhere, at some time, also even managed to slow their heart (directly, not just indirectly). But things like raising arms against incoming object is easy enough. I once saw a lecture form a German neuroscientist about the exact circuitry of how the whiskers of a mouse influence its.. was it head movement, don't quite remember? But it was mapped through several neurons in the brain (a mouse had its head open during experiments, and then there's two-photon microscopy to look a bit deeper, in the living brain of the mouse model). Anyway, nothing mysterious about instincts, even if we don't have exact maps of all neurons involved for everything (yet).

"I'm not a god...yet" Pretty sure Bob intends on getting to beyond Tier 10 at some point.
