As far as summoning material based on properties, you'd have to be exceptionally knowledgeable about material sciences, but yes, you could. There are two types of crafting. There is crafting, where anything we can make today, can be made in the Bob universe, exactly the same way. That's a huge part of where the value of Earth comes into play, as we have taken the creation of tools to an entirely different level. On the other hand, Crafting (capitalized for a reason) through the System allows you harness energies of the cosmos, allowing you to basically cheat. How does that steel blade cut through that titanium block? Because the crafter was able to use mana to produce a reinforced mono-filament blade that self repairs. The long answer is that someone who has chosen to take crafting skills is able to make items that are stronger, more resilient, and even harness the users mana to create magical effects that the user themselves lacks the skills for. I haven't delved (heh, I'm very punny) into the details too far, as they aren't relevant to the story of Bob, his cat, and his friends. My next story *will* show more details of the crafting system.

Thanks for such a comprehensive answer, it had been bugging me that I’d forgotten. When I mentioned alternate materials I was thinking of something similar to summoning the creatures. Can you summon some material based on properties you want, slowly working your way into some greater version of another material? Like say you wanted copper, but it was denser, more ductile, or melted at a higher temperature. And how does crafting work? I assumed it was like anything else and had Skills and Paths, but you recently made it out to be not so significant - that crafting wasn’t a system assisted / boosted affair to a level where just doing it yourself is better if you have the skill, no capital, to do it yourself. How does that work with the materials? How does a crafter keep scaling into being better if there are Skills involved? Do they get bonuses that make the materials better? I ask as some stories make the material completely outside the bounds of the crafter, and in others the material gets so changed it’s not really the same material they picked up.

Well, the queen should know that Bob is tier 8.

Can we get some more glimpses of what Earth humans are doing with the paths/systems? I feel like you should already be having to deal with the fallout from someone realizing how easy it would be to make yourself into a railgun with unlimited and variable ammo and immiedietly posting about it on Youtube. It's all fun and games until someone screws up the magnetic fields and accelerates a monster can sized metal tube full of thermite the wrong direction.

*rubs hands together gleefully* So, crystallized mana is used almost exclusively in Ritual Magic. Like all mana, it varies in both density and potency, however the manner in which it is used often renders those to factors irrelevant. When you are applying Ritual Magic to a spell to increase its magnitude, the level and tier of the crystal don't matter, as it's only the amount of mana being pulled from the crystals that comes in to play. That's why portals, plant growth spells, and ritually summoninng dinosaurs doesn't require any particular crystals. When you are applying Ritual Magic to an *enchantment* it matters. You're no longer simply empowering a spell, you're trying to fuel one. The difference is that when you empower a spell, *you* are the engine delivering the power, and the mana from the crystals you use flows through you. When you are enchanting, the crystals themselves are empowering the effect, which is where the tier and level of the crystal matter. As far as summoning materials goes, that gets into something we've labeled as 'Material hardness'. Your ability to summon materials is determined by your spellcasting value. Straw is easy, steel is hard, diamond is very hard, U238 is incredibly difficult to summon. The cost is simple, 100 mana crystals. How much you can create is determined by your tier. At tier five the maximum amount of material you can summon is five cubic feet. Could summon drop a hundred crystals and summon five cubic feet of gold? Yep. I'm not sure what you mean by alternate materials? If you're referring to substances we've only proven exist theoretically, then that's a big fat maybe. You'd have to know everything about the material, the research that postulated its existence, and truly believe it existed. As far as creating entirely new species, yes, yes, you can. Again, you'll need to have extensive biological knowledge and experience to do so, but it's possible. You'll probably waste a lot of crystals trying to get it right.

Thanks for the chapter! I know this was explained forever ago, but how does mana work with the crystals in regards to summoning and supplying enchantments and what have you? Like, does the tier and level of the crystal have any effect on ritual summoning or supplying enchantments? I remember that not being the case, but how does that make sense? I mean, this isn’t just arbitrary, right? The tiers and levels make monsters more expensive to spawn for a dungeon, so what happens with ritual summoning? Also, how do you summon more material? Like if you wanted to ritually summon a bunch of dirt or steel or gold? What determines the cost and how much you get? Can you ritually summon alternate materials and creatures? Like, a more durable steel or faster animal? Would you just need to understand how to make that happen? Can you create entirely new species by ritually summoning them? Sorry it’s been a while and I can’t remember much.
