When our lips touched. Part 1.

In Edinburgh, it is a late and foggy night. The fog increases and becomes more challenging to see as a crow shrieks and echoes through the empty streets. John is taking a walk trying to clear his head from an incident on his previous mission.
The episode replays in His mind and recalls it as if it just happened moments before.
It was the middle of the mission, and gunshots rang out overhead, followed by a soldier's wailing screamfar in the distance. Ghost ran toward him. He soon realizes a portion of Ghost's balaclava had been pulled from his face, revealing sections of his lips and jaw. "the enemy is closing in, you fucking idiot, don't be a hero. Run I'm out of ammo," Ghost exclaims.
An explosion went off, sending Ghost soaring toward him and knocking them both to the ground. Ghost, now on top of him, Realized what just transpired and gathered his thoughts, with the realization their lips touched
Ghost ignores it as if it never happened and forces himself up as he rolls away from his body with a deep grunt, "Mother fuckers," he muttered in pain.
Soap still lying there for a time, and when he realized their lips had met, he swirled his tongue over his bottom lip and bit down on it, not knowing how he felt at that moment.
John continues his walk, and he notices the glowing lights of an old pub called O'malley's Pub, with a sign hanging above the door. He approaches the pub and peeks through the stained glass window, it seems to be empty inside. He decides to enter, and as he opens the door, a bell rings.
The barkeep looks up and asks, "What's your poison, stranger?"
The elderly barkeep looks at him and asks again, "What can I get you, son?" He is lost in his thoughts but comes to and replies, "Oh, sorry about that. I'll have a pint, please."
"What's the name, son?"
"Soap, my friends call me Soap,"
"Interesting name my boy,"
"I be Hamish, Hamish O'Malley,"
The barkeep parroted as he poured a beer.
He is serves a pint and takes a seat at the end of the bar staring deep in thought at the glass mug with the foam running down its side.
"What's on your mind son, Is it girl trouble?" The barkeep asks.
A loud sigh leaves his body, "You could say something like that," John replies as he takes a sip from his beer.
The barkeep nods his head and requests,
"So what's the problem then, son?"
"Nothing, sir. I just have a lot going on in my head, and I need to figure it out myself,"
The barkeep picks up a dirty beer mug and polishes it with a white rag.
"You know, son. it's always important to say what's on your mind. Why don't you send that girl a message and tell her what's going on in that head of yours? I'm sure whatever the situation is, she'll understand," The barkeep says winking at him as he walks to the other side of the bar to put the polished beer mug away.
John observes the barkeep as he walks away with the beer mug. Lost in thought. He wonders, "Is the old man right, Could he simply just call Ghost and tell him what is on his mind?
Until that moment, He thought he only had a liking towards women, But seeing part of Ghost's face for the first time and noticing his pink lips, he realized that he was attracted to Ghost in another way. He always had some sort of crush on Ghost thinking it was more like a bromance and looked up to him like a hero. but since that night the tingling feeling when their lips touched confirmed it.
As they were returning home from the mission that night, the helicopter ride was intense. John sat beside Ghost, pretending to fall asleep with his head resting on Ghost's shoulder. Ghost leaned his head against John's and had his arm on his leg. They remained in that position for the majority of the flight back to the base, leaning into each other.
John takes another sip of his beer deep in thought not hearing the Barkeep speaking to him thinking what is the best solution to this whole situation between them.
On the one hand, they are colleagues and fight in battle together and if emotions between them should form it can be a distraction during their missions. Yet again he can just leave things as they are, suppress his feelings toward Ghost and continue his life as he has done before.
On the other hand, he can confront Ghost and discuss what is going on in his head and work it through.
John breaks his focus on his thoughts hearing the barkeep speak to him.
"My boy, sometimes a man needs to confront his fears and cry and break down to heal himself,"
John looks up in confusion at the old man not precisely sure what he meant and his face shows it.
The barkeep says sternly, "Son, call that girl and tell her what's on your mind,"
John mutters to himself, "What's going on with me? I'm a licenced killer for fuck sake this shouldn't bother me as much."
The relationship between them always has been strictly professional with an occasional joke and beer shared, and nothing more. However, something new has been brewing deep inside of him as he finds himself developing new feelings for Ghost, but on the other hand, Ghost always ignores him and only speaks to him when needed.
"How can I just call him and tell him what is going on in my head he'll laugh at me or even have me transferred," He whispers to himself taking another sip of his beer.
John exhaled and brushed his fingers through his hair. He pulls his phone from his pants pocket and unlocks it, scrolls through his contact list and finds Ghost's number, As he hovers his finger above the "Call" button, he hesitates. Just then, the barkeep on the other side of the room, polishing yet another beer mug, speaks up loudly, "Do it, son. You'll regret it someday if you don't,"
John's eyes glance up, then back down again at his phone. He pulls a 10-pound note from his pocket and leaves it on the counter before walking out of the bar and pressing the dial button.
The phone rings...
John is overwhelmed in his thoughts as he contemplates what to say to Ghost. Just as he's about to hang up, he hears the voice of the man who has been driving him up the walls.
"Hello? Soap, are you there?"
He hesitates to answer.
"I can hear you breathing, Soap, Stop wasting my time," Ghost says impatiently.
"Sorry," followed by an uncomfortable laugh.
"Well then, what is it you want?"
He takes a deep breath and answers Ghost's question.
"I need to talk to you about something."
John looks at his phone screen, but Ghost just sits there not moving or saying a word, Moments pass as the awkward silence thickens then Ghost orders.
"Switch to video call,"
"What, why?"
"Just do it" Ghost demanded.
He does as instructed and switches to a video call.
An image appears on the screen. Ghost is sitting up on the bed without a shirt exposing his naked upper body, still wearing his balaclava.
"Where are you?"
"I'm taking a walk,"
"Are you alone?"
"Aye, I'm alone,"
"So then, what's so important that you couldn't speak to me when I answered your call?"
John looks into the screen and locks eyes with Ghost, then looks away in shame lets out a sigh and answers Ghost's question.
"Do you remember our mission after the explosion what happened?" Ghost's eyes firmed and responded,"
"No, not really, Why?"
A tear forms in his eye and rolls down his cheek as he wipes it away then continues,
"When you landed on me and..., And our lips touched for a moment, Do you remember that, Lt?"
"More or less, I do recall that, but why are you acting up, so emotional?"
John falls to his knees and sits for a moment before responding, As years' worth of emotions he's been suppressing floats to the surface and clouds his judgement and roars,
"I don't know what's going on I've never acted like this, it's... It's just..., I don't know, okay,"
John rubs his eyes with his free hand and continues.
"I've been going up the walls ever since that night with the whole kissing thing and the helicopter ride, and I don't know what's fucking wrong with me. I feel like a fucking idiot. I mean I'm a licenced killer for god sake."
John takes a breath and lets out.
"It's you, Ghost, it's you I don't know why, but my brain has been a fucking mess since then,"
John bursts into tears, crying his heart out to Ghost, and mutters,
"Ghost. I think I have feelings for you.
Ghost stares at him with bafflement.
Ghost ends the call...
John stares at His phone's screen and watches the call end.
"What, you fucking bastard!" He roars."
He let go of his phone and it dropped to the ground. John's body goes limp as he becomes paralyzed, his mind clouds and the memory of the mission vanishes as if it had never existed. He sat there, slid off his knees and fell to his rear, staring blankly without focus. In that moment his mind felt like his world had come to an end.
An hour has passed and the sound of footsteps approaches.
"Oh dear, my dear boy?" A familiar voice echoes in the distance.
John slowly regains his focus but he is still in a haze, It's the barkeep from earlier.
"I guess I slipped," He mutters rubbing his face.
The barkeep helps him up from the ground, picks up his phone, and hands it back to him.
"Are you all right, young man?" Patting him on his shoulder. "You are as pale as a ghost, Did you call that girl then, lad?"
John looks up at the barkeep trying to keep his emotions in check but it doesn't help.
"Oh, My dear boy," The barkeep uttered realizing what had just transpired moments before he arrived at the scene.
"Why don't you go home and rest, Son? It's still a few hours before sunrise, you know, a bit of sleep will do you some good."
John gazed at the time on his phone and realized it was nearly 3 a.m.
"Aye, I'll do that. Thank you, sir,"
Frustrated and still hard to see with the thickening fog, John knows his way around town. Still demented in thought and not ready to return to his flat.
John makes his way to the local park sits down under an English oak tree and gazes over the park not that he can see much apart from the lighting bugs floating around.
The fog inhales the town. John just sat there humming to himself softly calming his nerves as he poked around in the dirt with a stick listening to the world around him.
In the distance he hears a frog croak along with a few crickets and the wind gently brushes the leaves along the trees surrounding him, It's peaceful he almost forgets the video call he had with Ghost completely.
for a moment John was at peace but the memory of the mission flashed through his mind like lightning. Tears fill his eyes and run down his cheeks dripping onto his shirt.
John questions himself, "Why am I acting like this needy child," feeling the vein in his forehead swell.
"Ghost, You fucking bastard I've put my life on the line for you..., You couldn't even look me in the face and answer me I deserve more respect than that you bastard,"
He cried out losing his voice.
"Get a grip on yourself, John, don't be such a little bitch" He bawled hitting his forehead with the palm of his hands.
John leans against the old English oak tree, feeling utterly powerless as the alarm on his phone goes off.
"It's 05:15 am already" He mutters.
He gets up off the ground, rubs the dead leaves off his pants, adjusts his shirt, rubs his face, and exhales loudly.
John walks towards his flat's direction, but it's at least an hour's walk before he gets there. He dreads the walk as the video call with Ghost keeps replaying in his head. He shakes his head rapidly a few times to clear it from the visions that keep playing in his head, but it's no use.
John walks through the street of the old Scottish town as the fog makes its way and leaves the grasp it held on the town, A few birds sing their morning songs and the sun rises slowly.
Finally, John reaches his street and makes his way to his building. In front of his building, he sees a familiar Jeep Wrangler, Sarge green in colour. As he walks closer, He notices a dark figure sitting on the staircase leading up to his building's front door, It is Ghost.
John walks up to his building back turned to Ghost.
"What are you doing here, Ghost?"
"I've come to see you, Johnny,"
Surprised he has never heard Ghost call him by his name before. Everyone calls him Soap. He looks over his shoulder and asks,
"Why?"
"I've come to see you, Johnny
"Why did you just end the call like that then?"
"I don't know, Johnny,"
"Johnny, please look at me. Please,"
"Why? All I'm gonna see is that fucking mask you keep hiding your face with,"
"Johnny please,"
Ghost stood there for a moment, reached for his head, and slowly pulled his mask off revealing his entire face to the world.
"Johnny, please look at me. I beg of you,"
"Is that an order?"
He asked Ghost as frustration filled his head.
"Yes, Yes it is,"
"No..."
"John...please,"
Ghost pleads, Begging him to turn his way as his voice breaks.
He turns around with his head facing downwards at his feet and notices Ghost is holding his mask in his hand.
"Fuck you, Ghost!"
John cries as he falls forward and rests his head on Ghost's chest.
"Why now? Why do you pity me so... I open up to you, you discard it and now you want to manipulate me by showing me your face,"
Ghost embraces him pulling him in close and hugs him, wrapping his arms around his body.
"Ghost put your mask back on please,"
Ghost does as he is instructed while still holding him with his one arm.
Ghost exhales loudly grasping Him tighter in his arms and letting his feelings flow from his lips.
"Johnny..., Last night when you said all that to me, I was caught off guard. the feelings you have toward me I've had for you for years.
You always were in the company of women and going on about your nights with them, How do you think that made me feel knowing I wanted you but couldn't? I felt like an idiot. I pushed those feelings away and became cold, focusing on our work. I ignored you because of how you make me feel, Johnny don't you realize that?
Why do you think I drove all the way here from Manchester? I needed to see you in person to tell you how I felt hoping and praying to whoever is up there watching. I've dreamt of the moment I can hold you like this. To take you in my arms and kiss you, take you on dates, travel the world, and finally say I lov...,"
Ghost stops in his words thinking he has said too much.
John pulls back and breaks the embrace from him and stares at Ghost for a moment not knowing what he just heard was real and looks away closing his eyes.
Ghost gently pressed his palms on his Cheeks holding him in his grasp. He gazed back up into Ghost's dark eyes
"You're a fool you know that right,"
John mutters softly lifting Ghost's mask to the tip of his nose exposing Ghost's jaw and pink lips and leans in and kisses him, Their lips lock in a gentle kiss.
Ghost's arms move swiftly along his back sending a tingle down his spine as John runs his fingers through Ghost's hair tucked away under his mask. At that moment it felt like the world had come to a still and they were the only two beings left standing on Earth safely wrapped in each other's arms intertwined by their kiss.
Ghost mutters through their kiss, "I have something for you,"
John pulls back still hypnotized by Ghost's touch.
"Wha...what did you say?"
"I have something for you,"
Ghost answers clearly with a little smile with his mask still up to the tip of his nose.
Ghost reaches around his neck removes a silver chain necklace and hands it to Soap.
John inspected the chain eagerly and noticed a little grey pebble with what looked like a scorch mark and a silver bail attached to the chain.
"What's this then?"
"The pebble I picked up after that explosion. It was meant to serve as a reminder of that moment we shared, Despite being delirious from the aftershock, I somehow managed to collect it. I wanted to hold onto that memory of us,"
John looks up at Ghost and locks his gaze with Ghost. His eyes fill with tears once again, and he jerks away, pushing Ghost a few feet back and rubbing his eyes clear.
"Ghost, I've never cried like this in my whole life. What have you done to me?"
Ghost pulled him back into his arms and whispered,
"You mean the world to me, Johnny."
John smiles and takes Ghost's hand into his own, gently pulls and leans in kisses him again and asks,
"Would you like to come inside?"
