Honestly I do get how people can really hate how deportation runs Honestly, and yes I'm a center right Republican who had voted for Trump on the whole immigration issue but I'll be completely honest I support the ends just not the means, the ends being that the USA is rid of Mexican criminals and drug dealers as well as illegal trespassers into the USA, but I don't support the means in which a small group of people (specifically ICE) is just deporting anyone they deem Mexican without the allowance of being able to collect their passports, visas, or anything to defend their stay is one of those means that I don't like nor support but as others say it, "It is what it is, and we have to live with it".

On demonising enemies, I remember translating Pliny the younger letters to the emperor, and reply what to do about Christians, and if I remember correctly the Christians were accused of eating/sacrificing children. This was more than 50 years ago in Latin 4.
