There are two conflicting stories of the origin of Eggs Benedict, one in the Waldorf Astoria back in 1894, and the other at Delmonico's in the 1860's. The true origins may never be known but the food is still with us today, in any case a short but delicious history lesson there for ya Martin. Ah, now there's an idea for Extra History, breakfast foods mayhaps?

Trivia: For those of us who watched the early years of Nickelodeon, there was a comedy skit show with kids called "You Can't Do That On Television". Some skits were at a school named, "Benedict Arnold Public School".

There is one statue of Benedict Arnold. It's at the Saratoga National Historic Park and only includes his injured leg. The inscription does not mention Arnold by name.

The name 'Benedict' is still quite common over here in the UK. There was also a Pope Benedict during our lifetimes, who, as I'm sure you recall, became noticeable because he was the first Pope to resign since 1415. I also hear talk of something called an 'Eggs Benedict' over on your end of the big pond, which I doubt has anything to do with the General, but I don't think we have an equivalent of.
