My view on the trolley? I ain't loosing sleep on 5 people who don't have the good sense to stay off train tracks.

When studying engineering we had this discussion about trolley problem and self driving cars. We somehow got an different approach. First we assume if a human can actually make a decision (Not just reacting by reflex) a Machine should have more option (1s response time). So we asked if the Machine can solve dangerous situations where a Human just react, that also means that if the Machine actually get in the situation to decide the Human is most likely doing nothing. So we asked what if the car just flips a coin or even always piking the worst solution (killing every one)? Now we checked some statistics for car accidents and goth a number for the deaths caused by Human error. Comparing this with the People selves driving cares can kill when in the situation where an active decision can be made only by the Machine ... Have fun discussing that :-P
