Reminds me of a story about a french court jester, when he offended the court the king made him the same offer, and on the day he was to announce his decision, the Jester said he had chosen, "of old age." The king was amused enough to just facepalm and let the guy have it. Was actually surprised our cunning protagonist didn't think of something similar to get out of this predicament.
