This makes me want to see a series on Queen Mary Tudor of England.

When we were told this story at School, it was very similar at first ~ chanting "Bloody Mary" three times to summon the spirit, dark room, etc. ~ however, the spirit in the mirror isn't a woman burned at the stake by Puritans in the English version: instead, it's the restless ghost of England's last Catholic Queen, Mary Tudor, a.k.a "Bloody Mary," who appears to the chanter.

Personally I think Women get forgotten in history, such as Emilia Earhart, America's most well known lady pilot, the bloody Elizabeth Bathory who liked to bathe in the blood of virgin girls because their blood made her skin youthful and kept her vibrant. Or the Virgin Queen who basically told the kings of Europe "Up yours" when her navy defeated the mighty Spanish Navy led by famous/infamous pirate, Sir Francis Drake "El Drago" (The Dragon). Then there is "Bloody Mary" Tudor, Queen Mary the first of England who is known for her violent purges and prosecution of the English Protestants. Or even perhaps Elenor Roosevelt who did SO much for the Allies as first lady during America's war time. There are so many more but I don't have the time of day to sing all their praises.

It’s also neat to hear all the different regional variations of Mary’s story. In my hometown she was a daughter of the pioneers who was blessed by a Native American medicine man when she gave him water on a hot day. She got the monicker of Bloody Mary in the 40’s when hoodlums tried to rob her house, and found out just how good she was with a Winchester. Her old homestead is long since demolished, but if you drive to the far north end of 48th street and turn just after the archery range you can still roam the woods that were around her house.
