Our next Extra History theme is Environmental History!
We live in a moment of environmental crisis. Native plants and animals are on the decline, ecosystems are being upended, and warming oceans have caused coral reefs that were verdant only thirty years ago to become bleached and dead.
We know, we know—it's depressing.
But one of the best ways to put the present into perspective is to look at the past. So for this topic suggestion, we'll do that. The topic this month is environmental history, the history of how humans have affected the environment, and how the environment has, in turn, changed us.
This could be a man-made environmental disaster like the Dust Bowl, or the fall of an animal population like the slaughter of the American bison or whaling industry. Alternately it could be something about climate in general, such as the Little Ice Age. Environmental regulations are also on the table (English air purity laws go back to the 13th century!) as well as topics involving industrialization and pollution, or the rise of the major industries like coal and oil.
This is one of those topics where we're expecting to get some cool out-of-left-field topics we didn't even think of, so feel free to dig deep—just remember it has to cover 4-5 episodes!

Usually, Rob doesn't accept anything too early in time but it never hurts to put something down and maybe it will spawn an excellent historical topic
