OMG. The canon that is the christian bible was assembled by a bunch of fanbois in 325. I never thought of that. Things that didn't really fit what they wanted got thrown out, but still lurk around. However, those who bring those up are often trashed by the fanbois. Wow.

Canon provides consistency in a property as it moves from one item to another; be it movies, books, comics etc. It rewards fans for paying attention and it adds a degree of realism to the larger body of work.
