Same! Some of us here never really thought about the link between Robin Hood and what actually happened in history. It was a shocking historical slap in the face for sure. lol Everything clicked into place after that.

Yeah, adding Robin Hood to the Richard/John dynamic was mostly a popularization that really gained traction with Ivanhoe (written in 1819)

The version I heard, the ballads were rewritten to cast John as a villain, and a lot of them actually predate the Plantagenet dynasty.

Is now a good time to bring up Robin Hood? Most of the Robin Hod ballads are set around this time, except from the Russell Crowe film, which is set during the reign of King John.
