We read this in school and, to be honest, I found it puzzling. I also played Hamlet in school ~ briefly ~ for about 60 seconds [I referred to myself as the 60~ second Emergency Hamlet] and we eventually ended up with 9 different people playing Hamlet and I thought we should've changed the name to 'The Tale of The Many Hamlets.'

I'm deep in the archives still. Catching up fast, but over 350 to go on just the history stuff. But it sounds like you guys might not have given me that D- in my high school lit class for being the only person in my class (including my teacher) to actually get it.
