One of the fascinating things about history is that the same story can be told—in fact, probably should be told—from multiple angles. In this series, we’ll take on a well-known figure, but tell them in a different light than usual. You know Julius Caesar as the military hero… but what about the destabilizer and power-hungry dictator? How about the adventures of young Napoleon, clawing his way to become Emperor? Was Henry VIII’s erratic, reprehensible behavior proof of his awful temperament, due to the stress of kingship, or the result of multiple head injuries while jousting? What about George Washington’s career as a spymaster, or whether the Emperor Meiji had much to do with the restoration and reforms that bear his name.
Some notes about your suggestions:
- Only one suggestion per person please! Multiple suggestions from the same person during any given survey period will be manually removed.
- If a suggestion we encounter only has enough research material/production scope for a one-off episode instead of a full series, we file it in a separate list to reference later when we are planning to schedule a one-off episode between series (this is true for every survey we do).
- Anything that happened or started before 1929 is fair game to suggest. We typically don't cover more recent events, unless we're working with sponsors who can provide more documentation about that historical topic.

I think the key to understanding her as a historical figure is to remember that before she married, she was Marie Antoinette von Habsburg. A lot of her reputation came from anti-Austrian attitudes in place at the time.

I suggested Marie Antoinette. No doubt she was out of touch with the problems facing the common folk in France, but I think it would be interesting to explore her life beyond the “Let Them Eat Cake” attitude that is so strongly tied to her person.
