Chopper ended up like this because he was trying to save everyone!
What should we do?!
How can we help him?!
Everyone had this same question racing through their minds.
Then, in unison, they all turned toward Vir.
Here, the only doctor was Vir.
And only he had the ability to help Chopper!
Yet, what they saw was Vir’s calm and composed expression.
What?
Why was Vir so calm?
Did he not care about Chopper?
Chopper was clearly in unbearable pain!
“Oi! Vir! You have a way to save Chopper, right?! If this keeps up, he’ll die!”
Luffy, looking panicked, shouted at Vir.
“Lower your voice. His eardrums are already in agony. Loud noises will make it worse.”
Vir reminded Luffy.
After speaking, he walked toward the bed.
Chopper, teary-eyed, gazed at Vir. His eyes held despair, but also a glimmer of hope.
But there was no regret.
His breathing was incredibly weak.
He wanted to cry, but he knew that the pain from his vocal cords and face would be unbearable.
As Vir approached, Chopper’s expression changed again.
It hurt too much.
Even breathing was unbearable.
Despair deepened in his eyes.
Slowly, he started sending Vir a different message with his gaze.
Vir understood what he meant.
‘Kill… me…’
As Vir searched for the right injection spot, he spoke softly, “Don’t worry, I’ve got a way. Just hold on for two more seconds…”
The moment Vir said that, the despair in Chopper’s eyes vanished instantly!
It was replaced by the overwhelming joy of surviving a catastrophe.
He had never doubted Vir’s words.
If big bro said he had a way, then he would be saved.
“Remember this feeling!”
Vir, holding a syringe, aimed at Chopper’s vein and injected painkiller swiftly and precisely.
The liquid was pushed in at once.
The moment the needle pierced his skin, Chopper’s entire body trembled in pain!
This was a sensation he would never forget for the rest of his life!
As soon as the medicine entered his body, Chopper took deep, gasping breaths, like a drowning man finally reaching the surface.
The only sound in the room was Chopper’s ragged breathing.
Once the medicine took effect, the pain vanished instantly.
But that injection alone was enough to etch itself into Chopper’s memory.
“Waaahhh~~ Aaaahhhh~~!”
Now that all the pain had disappeared, Chopper burst into tears.
He cried bitterly.
Not as badly as when Vir had treated him before.
But close enough.
Hearing Chopper’s cries, the tense crew finally let out a collective sigh of relief.
When Vir had spoken earlier, no one dared to make a sound.
Now that the problem was solved, they could finally relax.
But thinking about what Chopper had just gone through, their hearts ached for him.
Sanji: I’ll definitely cook more delicious meals for Chopper! He’s the best partner I have—besides women!
Zoro: If there’s good booze, I’ll share a couple of sips with him.
Luffy: Chopper! I’ll never steal your food again!
Nami & Usopp: From now on, when the three of us run away, we won’t leave you behind!
Robin: I’ll try to scare him less in the future…
At this moment, Chopper was officially promoted to the crew’s mascot.
Tears welling up in his eyes, he struggled to sit up and hug Vir.
But just because his pain was numbed didn’t mean the side effects were gone.
He wasn’t in pain anymore, but his body was still severely damaged from overusing the Rumble Ball.
Sitting up was impossible.
Moving was impossible.
Now that the biggest issue was resolved, his physical injuries weren’t a big deal.
After all, Vir was a doctor.
This was his specialty.
As for Chopper, he’d let it slide this time.
Some internal and external treatment should do.
No need for drastic measures like surgery this time.
Let’s take it slow.
“How do you feel?”
Vir looked at the Chopper lying in bed and asked.
“It hurts…”
Chopper replied, his face full of grievance.
“Will you still take it next time?”
Vir glared at him.
“I will!”
Chopper, previously looking pitiful, suddenly became firm and loudly retorted.
“What? Luffy! Everyone, get out! I need to treat Chopper’s injuries! He’s about to die! His brain is probably already broken!”
Vir’s face darkened.
Hearing this, Luffy and the others froze at first. But since Vir said he was treating Chopper, they had no reason to argue.
One by one, they exited the room.
Bang!
The door was closed.
But they could faintly hear sounds from inside.
“Eat, eat, eat! All you know is eating! Come on, let’s go to the operating room!”
“But big bro! You were almost captured! I have to eat it!”
“I already told you! In situations like this, just go back to your damn mountain! Can’t you understand?!”
“No! I won’t!”
“Oh? Ohhh? So you’ve entered your rebellious phase, huh? Alright! Today I’m gonna cure this bad habit of yours!”
Dong!
A heavy door slammed shut inside.
Not long after, accompanied by the buzzing sound of a chainsaw, Chopper’s screams began to echo.
And this time, they sounded even more pitiful than before…
The crew shivered in unison.
A mix of fear and relief flashed in their eyes.
Thank goodness… Thank goodness we didn’t get hurt!
Only Chopper did.
What a stroke of luck.
No time to waste! Time to train!
I can’t let that happen to me!
Everyone thought the same thing.
And so, a whirlwind of training resumed on the ship.
Even Robin joined in.
She wanted to awaken Armament Haki.
Vir had told her that a weak body couldn’t awaken it.
Only a strong body was the foundation of everything.
…
The ship sailed smoothly.
Nami’s navigation skills had improved immensely.
She was close to reaching Vir’s level.
That was talent.
Something ordinary people just couldn’t compete with.
With her around, the ship rarely encountered troublesome or insurmountable weather.
The sea breeze blew against the Going Merry’s sails, rustling the tangerine trees and making them chime softly.
Perched on the mast, Merry watched the crew training under the sun, a pure and happy smile forming on its face.
‘Sailing with everyone is so much fun!’
“Ahhh!! Aaaah!!”
‘It’s just that the screams are a bit terrifying…’
Merry thought to itself, slightly unsettled.
Chopper’s cries lasted for a full hour before finally stopping.
By then, he had passed out again.
But the strange thing was—he was supposed to be immune to pain.
Yet he kept screaming in agony.
No one knew what Vir had done to him.
But somehow, he managed to make a reindeer that couldn’t feel pain let out such miserable cries.
