I've been away from my workstation for about a few days, but I'm back now! Daily content will now resume- thanks for your patience!
Designing characters doesn't have to be difficult- I find that otherwise boring/simple character outfits can be made unique by effective use of shape design, color, and well-placed accessories + accents. Most of the big shapes (such as pointed hair, wide pants, rounded hat to offset the pointed hair, etc.) were designed early on. Once those base layers were laid in (30sec) I was able to then explore color and smaller details such as accessories and shadows, bouncing between them as I saw fit.
BIG > SMALL details is my favorite way to work!
Here's a time-lapse of my latest archer character I designed, as well as a loose UI mockup to frame them. This is ~ 3hours of work condensed into 4 minutes.
