I'm still reading, so this is probably too late. But my thinking is that Madam Zhang may have been the one to spoil Lin's womb. The entire intent was for the Chao family to eliminate competition and take over the territory. That plan got fucked, so now they're doing it the hard way.

Andrew

It could be a face issue - if they don't retaliate others might move against them, like other families under similar circumstances There could be something in Lin family territory that they are trying to get/mess with. Madam Zhang was not originally the main wife which seems odd considering the Chao family are a lot more important than the Lin's, so it's weird she was married in at all never mind as a concubine. So maybe she went there to try and obtain/gain control of/mess with something It could also be to erase evidence of wrong doing - although why sending an army is less damaging to them than letting whatever wrong doings come to light is unclear

Mei Chen got to learn Obedience and SUBMIT to her MASTER commands and needs! @Erios909 But seriously what could be in this town that could make the cost of this war profitable for her step mothers family Chao? (Because this is Expensive and this has nothing to do with Justice.)

Thanks for the chapter.

It's time for the Feng Yu cavalry. Thanks for the chapter!

So we have a high priority target for elimination. Bai Chen knows way too much to be left alive. Thankfully he came to a battlefield, so it won't look too suspicious from the outside if he dies. Lord Chao would be a nice bonus, but let's not get too greedy and have him as an optional target for now.

I don’t like the betrayal, that said Xiulan did commit several killings, if not murders, misled others about it, and has people presumably being killed or maimed, eehile hiding information from them to escape the consequences. I certainly understand her reasons, as they were a response to theft, conspiracy, torture, and murder, but she definitely didn’t let her allies, much less the conscripts make informed decisions. I definitely want more chapters, but it’s a holiday in the United States, so either way I shall be thankful.
