I did realize that Suyin had somehow led to the whole frame-up. But Suyin was not as actively malicious and after her life than the others (at least as far as seen) and more of a feet-dragging accomplice. Nonetheless, after what happened, I could accept Xiulan killing her- even if it was not as satisfying as her father and other 'family'. The whole thing is vigilante justice at best, and with the world-background and her being the target of assassination attempts left and right it was imho justified. If that holds water in a Chinese-inspired setting where family is everything, and ancestors get enshrined... irgs.

Erios909

Suyin's maid Ming Hua revealed she had been the one that switched the bronze/golden documents that led to Mei Chen's arrest under Suyin's order. It wasn't specifically shown because it was supposed to be a shocker/reveal during the confrontation during the massacre. Which if you think is weak evidence, it was supposed to be, because Suyin had been forced to do so by Madam Zhang. Which is supposed to be another reveal to knock Xiulan over emotionally. But the whole thread subplot gets commented on and missed that I guess it's just not clear enough and maybe I'll just delete Suyin from existence later.

No idea why she killed Suyin - that part I never got. Was it done to silence a direct witness ?

"critical documents of hte county" "hte" -> "the"

The Lost Pages

Daddy Ren Chun? Hmm.... not bad.

CringeWorthyStudios

Probably helped by the fact that the people here seem to know her.

Pretty certain wrathful spirits would normally attack anyone in sight, Mei Chen not lashing out at every living person around her explains why he would be (relatively) understanding about that

At least he’s giving her the chance to explain. Hopefully Xiulan tells Ren Chun and Feng Yu the whole story (except the transmigration part). They deserve that much trust, I think. While she still killed her family, the circumstances were clearly enough that it’s understandable, even if not necessarily forgivable. … that said, I still think she was wrong to kill Suyin. The rest were the correct choice though.

Thanks for the chapter! Fingers crossed that Ren Chun sees the light. (I fully support the mother here. She deserves a good turn after having married that douchebag)

CringeWorthyStudios

Damn it. I really hope we get another chapter today because that ending is going to bother me. 😅 That said, amazing writing here, I’m just impatient as hell to see what happens next. 🤣 Thanks for the chapter!

I'm guessing little Zhang Wei has a bit of a loose tongue regarding what actually happened? Perhaps Ren Chun found out "for sure" via his own investigation, but I'm thinking he has direct confirmation. Considering how everyone else responds to the mention of a wrathful spirit, he's showing considerable trust and self-control here.
