Sean

True, I might have just watched too much Doctor Who growing up lol

I think she was transactional here tho. Golden pills seem to be plenty valuable to justify her behavior themselves. As for the recipe what she asked for would still be massively underselling it imo. If handled well, it's something that should be enough to get herself a position of a chief alchemist within any sect or group there is, except the one that already has the recipe of course.

For that to work the MC would have to be like thousands of years old and have dozens reincarnations under their belt ;) Otherwise it'd be kinda cringe.

I've suspected there being something wrong with Xiulan's soul/mind for a while now - she's not been acting consistent with either life, has occasional headaches and is clearly struggling with self control Her breakdown makes me pretty certain of this - her reincarnation/transmigration likely did some damage and a series of stressful situations (not helped by her recklessness) likely did not help

Sean

Whenever these scenes come up in transmigration stories I always want the MC to sigh and say something like "You are all so very, very small. Your nobles and your cultivators, your emperors and your demons, you will all die in such a short amount of time. Forgive my impatience, but I am old and tired of pomp and ceremony standing in the way of the things I choose to cherish." Honestly this exact situation comes up in sooo many novels so I've refined hundreds of different variations of that monologue.

Wincing at Xiulan's terrible behavior in this chapter. Xiulan has not yet internalized that the Treature Pavilion are effectively a SEPARATE Sovereign Cultivator State. They owe utterly NOTHING to her except what is gained by transactional contracts. She is NOT a formal disciple of Qingfeng and is not entitled to his protection. Even if she was, such help would not extend to maintaining her family's privileged noble position. And this neutrality and separation is the only, real way a cultivator society - where higher realms are strategic WMD's can operate. Any other system would automatically devolve to Extreme War and Utter Ruin . Providing the Treasure Pavilion as shelter to her family is an amazing, extra-ordinary act of mercy by Master Qingfeng that she does not even show any gratitude for. It is HER family that are the mortal, noble rulers of this land. It is expected that they maintain their position by themselves. She was the one who decided to go on an open slaughter fest without any investigation of the opponent's backing and support. Basically, she went to War without checking whether the other side had nuclear weapons. That gave the Chao family a full justification for retaliation. If she wants the Treasure Pavilion to handle her problems for her - that is effectively handing over sovereignty to the Treasure Pavilion. Either handle problems or let the Lin family concede and fully surrender their title and beg for mercy from the Chao family. Making sarcastic remarks while expecting undue help from a neutral, third-party shows an extremely entitled attitude.

Aura

Fantastic chapter. You conveyed her feelings and emotional state so well! Very believable and realistic. This whole arc is a perfect example of how to temper a character, forging them into the powerful MC everybody loves without making them powerless, ignorant, dumb, overly naive or meek at the start.

The Lost Pages

Thanks for the chapter! It was interesting to see Xiulan go a bit unhinged. And it is nice to see Feng Yu watching out for her sister.
