Erios909

keep in minds the teams were mirrored with the exact same forces; and the object was to destroy the enemy with no resupply or retreat available

At a strategic level, losing a fifth, maybe as little as a tenth of your forces is a massive loss to your war effort. Losing a whole fleet is something PR cannot turn around.

Erios909

They're cadets, they are learning. I think in the next chapter you'll see them learn a little from this experience.

I just hope outside of a simulation they would not just charge their fleets into each other. They should not use tactics from medieval times.

Treviisolion

Ehh, it depends on the objective of the battle. If it was merely to hold the position until reinforcements arrived then this would be considered a bare win. Likewise if the goal was merely to destroy the enemy then again a bare win. If however this was an attacking fleet that was supposed to then press on to an actual target, then the enemy basically neutralized them, and it would be a resounding defeat even though they left with more ships than the enemy. Likewise if this was a defending force supposed to deal with multiple rounds of attacks before reinforcement could arrive, then this was again a resounding failure. The next attacking force would tear through the paltry defenses left behind. Plus even in the situations where it’s a “win” losing most of your men and having only stragglers of your original group is usually not considered a win. Even during a loss most armies throughout history do not lose as much during a battle they lose as they just suffered in a win unless most of the unit is encircled and destroyed. Ship battles are a bit different, but typically much more ruinous to lose at these scales. Most nations can’t pop out fleets like they might be able to pop out armies. Even Meltisar with 3 high-level NAIs would struggle to keep up with attrition if every battle requires a brand new fleet to be rebuilt. At least until the system is turned into a fleet-factory and the planets scrapped to be converted into raw materials.

Well...that is how you win battles yeah? Lose less than the enemy.

Treviisolion

Frankly still a lost battle. Just less lost than the enemy, assuming all else is equal.

You mean to copy the personality data and make him a core?
