Thank you for book 3!

Our Hero and Protagonist Thea, Watcher at the Gate.

Philipp Gawol

I'm 100% certain that the NAI being attacked at the start wasn't a monster. It was simply going paperclip and had to be stopped. Going paperclip however seems to be impossible for normal NAI as they are driven by motivations that closely resemble a human's, not motivations which are foreign to humans. As is required to go paperclip. Which is why I arrived at the conclusion that the AI at the start of the story has to be a GAI running on NAI tech. Every time an AI goes to war with the world, my immediate assumption is that it was trying to go paperclip, because war is almost never the most efficient way to get shit done. Unless your motivation is so hilariously foreign to humanity that you can only get what you want through warfare.

Jonathan Wint

Remember his personality template was based on a human being or sevral human beings just like Alex's was based on several human beings. Normally apparently the core and the computer are the same personality but in different states of Consciousness I guess is the best way to put it. But Alex and nameless are two separate personalities. Even Abby and Heeler do not have that much of a division and according to nameless Alex was based on the minds of dead human beings he said he is a fraction of a fraction of a virtualized piece of the monster. But it's more than likely that Alex and him have the same pool of personalities that drawn from. I think the ultimatum proved that the monster left a little bit of herself in Alex as well and that means that some of those human personality traits that Alex is based on nameless might also have floating around his head.

Philipp Gawol

I'm pretty sure that boob job is very much for practical survival reasons and not to increase her charisma. Nameless can theoretically bring her back if she dies, but it leaves him in a state where his primary directive is to bring her back, likely making him ignore everything else in the meantime. It leaves him hilariously vulnerable. The chest is the most advantageous position to store a large amount of nanites by a massive mile. I'm not even sure that Nameless has any idea what attractiveness does to further their goal. Otherwise he would've already put every avatar he commands under the knife or more likely, he deems it inconsequential, quashed by diminishing returns. Though, I personally like to imagine that he's a massive pervert. NGL.

Looking forward to what happens with the captured Corpo NAI!

Hopefully, it doesn't take too long for Alex to return to her own people, like she planned to do in the first place. I want to see her reaction to all they've done. I can easily see her getting bogged down by the takeover efforts.

Any directives they have would have been applied by the Entity when they were created, and since there is no one above them anymore, there is no way to remove those directives.

Jonathan Wint

I Very much agree. Nameless does crap behind Alex's back All to Protect Alex. Even the Boob Job Might be because he noted Half the humans are less likely to Fear or Attack an Attractive Woman. All the Time he is thinking and He was told to Watch Elis and MMust of Known the Moment she went dark. He might of Even Known Her New Cargiver was a Fake. He Well Aware that Elis is the Reason Alex Is a Kind Gentle Person and her connection to humanity. And Nameless Wants a Megatron not Optimus Prime.

Jonathan Wint

Wonderful!

Speaking of directives, I hope she thinks about asking nameless about theirs soon. Alex might not be very bound by those because of the Omega protocol but Nameless clearly has at least one.

M. Gunnarsson

"All of this is based on the assumption that Nameless is trying to go paperclip." Huge risk. I know Alex is emotionally attached to him, but she also once brought a nuclear warhead to their shared brain to get him to stop being a turd. He'd go paperclip all right, because now she knows about directives and could reduce him to a glorified Microsoft Clippy 2.0.

Philipp Gawol

It unironically would. Eil is a uncontrollable variable. Nameless doesn't like those. We have to remember that Nameless would prefer Alex to be drugged out of her mind in an artificial coma, while he creates a massive fortress around her. Whoever designed the Omega-class dialed the self-preservation to fucking 11. If Nameless attacks one of the empires in an initial strike, he can cement himself as a small threat, which will buy time. None of the empires know what his actual rank is, which means that they will assume them to be lower ranked. A threat they can slowly whittle down and subsume. Not a threat that will grow at an exponential rate and subsume them in return. Everything he's doing is trying to stall the response and lock it in bureaucratic/diplomatic purgatory. Because he knows, given enough time to build up, they'll win. My best guess to how the Omega-class is supposed to function, is that when the last Omega dies, a new Omega is selected from the highest ranking NAI and they gain the ability to generate a GAI supporter with extreme computational efficiency running on NAI tech. Nameless misunderstood their relationship due to lack of data at the start, when he only had access to general information about how NAI are supposed to function. There's also the possibility that all of this has already occurred once before and Alex and Nameless just lost all their data. In which case the battle at the start happened because Nameless "Returned to Monke", after he managed to fool Alex into a comatose state, to maximize her chances of survival. . The thing he wanted to build at the start was an improved defense, based on the data collected from the final battle, but due to the lack of general information he tried to use his main threat as a glorified worker drone. . A justifiable incursion into one of the empires would put them into a phase where every other empire will try to figure out what the fuck even happened and sow a lot of discord. Then when everyone works out what the hell happened they'd be in diplomatic purgatory for a while. Then Nameless would use the alien race on one of their planets to further buy time on the diplomatic field. . All of this is based on the assumption that Nameless is trying to go paperclip.

How is Elis being with Alex detrimental to her survival? Or are you suggesting that Alex going to war with the corpos to rescue Elis would somehow increase her chance of survival?

Philipp Gawol

>"What were the odds that the very captain who had helped Alex rescue Elis was also Rachel’s father?" Pretty fucking good, since Nameless orchestrated the severity of that situation on purpose. He's still being held in check by Alex. He was trying to align Alex with his own goals. He likely spotted the fleeing ship instantly, but decided to ignore it until they'd have no chance to reach it before it jumped. He also had a captain stand by who was indebted to them, so there'd be no risk to their survival. It's the obvious thing for Nameless to do. He knows that they're about to face the full force of four different NAI empires and knows that they need massive military buildup for an advantageous negotiation position or to perpetually stall a coordinated assault. Hence his choice to sacrifice Alex's mental stability in return for a higher chance of survival. It's not a bad plan IMO, since Alex is being kinda retarded/naïve. (Calling her retarded when she's, like, two years old, feels wrong). It truly threw a massive stone into his gears when the kidnappers chose to act logically instead of predictably or maybe he didn't expect Alex to volunteer so much information in her threats. Those threats are kinda suicidal, even if they worked. Which means he likely didn't expect it.

Thanks for the exciting and wonderful book. I can't wait to see how this all plays out in the next book.
