Harry shrugged his shoulders, “Scrimgeour thought the same thing. Sorry Kingsley, but the argument isn’t gonna sway me anymore now than it did then.”
“But dangers still remain, Harry.” The Minister leaned over his desk, a scowl on his face, “Some of Voldemort’s most dangerous followers remain at large and they’ll undoubtedly view you as their primary target. Working with the Auror Department will give you the tools necessary to protect yourself and aid the public at the same time. It’s far safer than Hogwarts.”
There was a great deal about Harry, and his newfound abilities that Kingsley didn’t know, so he couldn’t blame him for one of those assumptions. The other however, “Who said anything about returning to Hogwarts?” Harry quirked an eyebrow, “There’s plenty left for me to learn about magic, but I don’t think I need the school any longer.”
“You’re not going back to school either?” Kingsley blinked slowly at the revelation.
“No, Minne seemed something between relieved and disappointed when I told her.” It was understandable. As much as the new headmistress cared for Harry, they agreed that his presence at the school was more likely to be a hinderance than anything else. I’d catch people staring before they saw me standing toe to toe with Tom in the Great Hall.
“What will you do?”
“I’m not sure if that’s any of your business, minister.”
Kingsley took a deep breath, “I understand that, Harry, I do. But you must understand that at this moment in time, you’re an asset to the whole of Magical Britian. I’d me remiss if I didn’t find out your intentions.”
Harry frowned, eyes narrowing, “Is that because you think I might be a threat, or simply because you want to control me? I hope it’s only the latter, Kingsley, because I don’t think you want me as an enemy. Regardless, I’ve had more than enough of being controlled for one lifetime, and I’m not going to allow you to do it to me now.”
“Harry,” he tried to placate him, “try to be reasonable. All I’m asking for is a bit of cooperation.”
“You’ve gotten your answer, and I’m afraid that’s all I’m willing to give you.” Harry stood and turned toward the door. It almost felt predictable when it opened before he reached it and in stepped two aurors. One was the newest head of the department, Damian Williamson, who Harry recognized from the battle in the Ministry in his fifth year. The other was Ewan Ward, who’d been in the Great Hall fighting in the battle of Hogwarts.
Williamson extended his hand, “Mr. Potter, it’s a pleasure to see you and we look forward to having you join the Auror program. We’re here to give you a tour of things before your first official day.” Harry forced himself not to chuckle. While it felt like an ambush, they clearly hadn’t been eavesdropping. And Kingsley was incredibly presumptuous.
Deciding to be polite, he shook the man’s hand as he replied, “That’s nice, but I’m afraid I won’t be joining the program.” The auror pair sent confused looks toward their boss behind Harry, before he added, “Though Ronald Weasley intends to join your ranks after he returns from Australia if that’s any consolation.”
“A small one.” Kingsley rumbled out from behind before he suggested, “Perhaps, you should take the tour regardless Harry. It might change your mind.”
“I’ll have to pass, but thank you, gentlemen.” He addressed the two aurors. With that he stepped between them.
“Harry, this meeting isn’t over. Your answer alone isn’t good enough.”. Unable to hide his irritation any longer, Kingsley barked “As your minister, I command you to sit back down.”
Hand slipping from the doorknob, Harry sighed as he turned to look back at the man. Despite everything, Harry could sympathize with Kingsley. The ministry was in shambles. They needed to root out corruption in every department, all while trying to reassure the public. But Harry failed to see where he was obligated to be part of those efforts.
“Sorry, Kingsley, that’s not going to happen. I did the only thing that I needed to do when I killed Tom.”
“You’re not leaving until we can come to an understanding, Harry.” Catching the hint, the two aurors shared an uncomfortable look before moving to stand between him and his way out.
Shaking his head, he scolded the minister, “I never thought you’d stoop so low, Kingsley. Thankfully, all of you’ve done is show me that I made the right decision.”
“Difficult actions must be taken in uncertain times, Harry. This can be as difficult or as painless as you’re willing to make it.” For the first time in their meeting, it seemed that the minister thought he was on the front foot. Unfortunately for him, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Harry took just one step forward… and vanished. There was no ‘pop’ of apparition, no flash of light, nothing. He simply disappeared from the office as though he’d never been there to begin with.
Kingsley stared at the spot for a long while before he said far more calmly, “How in Merlin’s name did he manage that?” Even if he was angry, he couldn’t help but be impressed.
Not far away in London, at Grimmauld Place, Harry arrived in the kitchen just as quiet. Hermione and Ron waited for him, his bushy-haired friend predictably reading while the redhead stared at the tea sitting in front of him.
When they noticed his arrival, Hermione closed her book as Ron asked the pressing question, “How did it go?” Neither of them was surprised by the means of his arrival. His two closest friends were the only people he told about the Hallows. And while he hadn’t provided the more intimate details, they understood that his new status came with some changes.
“Worse than I expected. I think I just made myself the enemy of a third Minister for Magic in almost as many years. I wager that’s a record.”
“Oh Harry…” Hermione didn’t really scold him, she sounded more resigned than anything, “What are you going to do?”
“Same thing I was planning before the meeting… travel.” He’d given it a good deal of thought since defeating the snake-faced bastard, and it was the one thing he kept coming back to. In his entire life, Harry never left Britian, and he wanted to change that. Death, even one as brief and pleasant as mine has a way of spurring you to action.
“Are you not worried that the ministry will try to stop you… or follow you?” Ron asked.
Harry snorted out a laugh, “They wouldn’t be able to manage it even if they tried. But no, Kingsley might fume about it for a while, but I don’t think he wants the public relations nightmare that would happen if I told the public that story.”
“So where are you going to go first then?” He could see that Hermione already had a dozen suggestions, but he already had an answer.
“You two are set to head off to Australia next week, that should be a good place to start.” He could see the strain in Ron’s smile at the news. Knowing that he intended to take the opportunity to cement his relationship with Hermione, Harry assuaged any fears by adding, “Figure we can spend a day or two together and then all get on our merry way.”
Ron’s smile turned grateful, “Sounds good, mate.”
Hermione started rattling through her plans for the trip as the boys just listened absently. They both knew that she’d have nearly every minute from the moment they arrived planned meticulously.

Death entered the room to the low sounds of a loom at work. It was an endless weave, the same one that began when the very first life took root in the cosmos. Uncountable strands, some just beginning, others nearly at their end, made up its ever-growing enormity.

Destiny hopped out of her chair at the sound of her voice, a wide grin on her face, “Death, my oldest friend, it’s been too long since your last visit. Has it been a decade now? Longer?” Only Time was truly Death’s equal in age, and they rarely crossed paths. Destiny was younger and given the obvious ways in which their realms connected, Death kept a closer relationship with her.
“Nearly twenty years…” Death mumbled as she was pulled into a hug, “I’ve been busy.”
“Twenty years is nothing more than a blink of an eye, but still far too long.” Destiny took her by the arm and guided her toward a seat, “And how is the business of reaping?”
“Constantly lucrative, just as it will be until the very end of creation.”
Destiny giggled, “I suppose that’s true.”
“But I’ve had some good fortune just recently.”
“Oh, do tell.” She bounced in her seat in anticipation. Despite being one of the oldest things in existence, Destiny always maintained a wide-eyed innocence. It was rather impressive in Death’s opinion.
“I’ve managed to reap the many soul fragments of one Tom Riddle.” Even now, months later, it gave her no small amount of satisfaction knowing that the monster failed in his quest to avoid her. That it came with the added benefit of Harry uniting my Hallows only makes it all the sweeter.
Of course, Destiny wore a knowing smile. She almost always did, but then when you knew the twists and turns that life would take, it was difficult to avoid, “I’m glad to hear it. I know the monster caused you no small amount of frustration.”
“You could’ve alleviated that frustration many years ago if you simply told me what I wanted to know.” On her last visit, they had a rather long and unproductive conversation about the path Tom Riddle’s life would take. Even if she couldn’t directly intervene and destroy the horcruxes, it would’ve been nice to know when, exactly, she would get the satisfaction of reaping him.
Destiny smirked, amused by the reminder of their old argument, “And just as I told you all those years ago, it isn’t my place to reveal the intricacies of the weave and the mortals that make up its threads.”
“There was a rather curious event that took place, just before his final, conclusive death though. Something I know that even you wouldn’t know.” While Destiny weaved the strands of mortals, a fellow primordial force, such as Death, had a permanent strand that was in the tapestry and would go untouched and unread by even the mistress of the house.
It meant that, unlike the rest of existence, Death could surprise her old friend. Raising one thin eyebrow in question, she asked, curious, “Really? Do tell then! No reason to keep here with bated breath.”
“Harry Potter unified my three Hallows.” She felt genuine satisfaction as she watched Destiny’s eyes widen in surprise.
“Really? I knew that he’d survive his ordeal, obviously. But now, there was no avoiding them, “Your touch on Harry’s life left an indelible mark on him. There’s a great deal of it I doubt he’d thank you for. I think it’s only right that you make some apology for the worst of it… and I know just the way you should do it.”
She took a few seconds to consider before replying, “Alright… what’s your plan?”

Getting up, as soon as he took her hand, they appeared somewhere completely different. Maybe it was his newly developed affinity thanks to the Hallows, but he could feel the magic in the place, different but no less potent. All around him looms worked tirelessly producing new pieces of a great tapestry.
He only had a few seconds to take it all in before Death pulled him toward a nearby door. Before opening it, she looked back at him and waved her hand. A shroud of inescapable darkness occluded his vision and deafened all noise but her voice, “Just trust me… it’ll only last a second.”
Taking him by the hand again, she guided him in. As he stood there, more curious by the moment, the darkness lifted from his eyes he found himself looking at a bed. It wasn’t an empty bed either.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed it. As for whether I have any plans for this one in the future, not currently. As you said, it's not really plot driven, so there aren't a great many places to take it, but that doesn't mean that something won't inspire me at some point.

I love seeing this continued! The first chapter was great (and so was this one), with an awesome angle on a very unique pairing. The addition of Destiny, and the way you "worked" her in, was nice too (I noticed how you made her a bit "kinda same, yet still different", and in a way that might open up the possibility for further continuation, I think?). I also don't mind that the story so far hasn't contained much in terms of plot - at least the intricate/novel sort, in the "present" timeline - as there's nothing wrong with stories that're a bit lighter/simpler in that regard. The entire buildup and descriptions, particularly in the first chapter, was really great though. Anyways, I certainly wouldn't mind if this got continued further! Any plans of that?
