The villagers, guided by an ancient prophecy, unexpectedly chose Mrs. G as this year's sentinel to guard a mysterious, rune-covered trunk said to contain a dark force that emerges every twenty years on the day of the summer solstice. The villagers provided Mrs. G with tiny underwear, proclaiming it a symbol of purity and bare truth, necessary for her to withstand the spirits' temptations. But as she stood watch at the forest's edge and braced for a spectral assault, she couldn't shake the unsettling feeling that it wasn't a dark force she sensed, but the leering gaze of the village men hidden among the trees.
