Chapter 83: Iron-Feathered Tiger Hawk
🕑 Added 2024-11-28 12:18:49 +0000 UTCOver the following day, the two continued their search but didn't have the same luck. Although they encountered some decent soul beasts, they did not come across another exceptional soul beast like the Armored Thorn Dragon.
By nightfall, Yang Zhentian became even more cautious, barely resting and focusing all his spiritual power on monitoring their surroundings to avoid any unforeseen incidents.
On the third day, as the two walked through a dense forest, a bear's roar suddenly echoed from afar, followed by a tiger's growl. It appeared that a bear and a tiger were fighting.
These sounds were anything but ordinary. The bear's roar carried immense soul power, almost deafening those who heard it, clearly indicating it was a soul beast far surpassing ten thousand years, likely no less than thirty thousand years.
Meanwhile, the tiger's growl exuded the aura of a king of beasts. While it didn't seem to possess as much soul power as the bear, its aura seemed to contain something more potent, as if it could pierce through defenses and suppress resistance.
"Dad, these two sounds are extraordinary. Let's go check it out."
Yang Zhentian hesitated, saying, "Podi, we don't need to go over there. Judging by the situation, both of these soul beasts are at least ten thousand years old. You can't absorb a soul beast of this level yet."
Yang Podi seemed unwilling to give up. "Let's just take a look. We can always keep our distance."
Seeing his son's eagerness, Yang Zhentian, knowing his son was growing impatient these days, finally agreed and led Yang Podi quickly toward the source of the bear's roar and the tiger's growl.
When the two approached the battlefield stealthily, they were stunned by what they saw.
A colossal Vigorous Vajra Bear stood roaring into the sky. It was over 20 meters tall. Based on the age calculation for bear-type soul beasts, this one had likely lived for about 40,000 years.
In the air hovered a tiger with wings. The tiger's entire body was covered in silver-gray fur, resembling steel needles. Its wings were even more striking, not covered in fur but in metallic silver-gray feathers that gleamed like forged steel.
Yang Podi was thrilled and whispered to his father, "Dad, it's an Iron-Feathered Tiger Hawk! This is an Iron-Feathered Tiger Hawk!"
"Podi, you're right. This is indeed an Iron-Feathered Tiger Hawk, but it has already surpassed ten thousand years."
Yang Zhentian's expression turned serious as he carefully observed the battle between the two soul beasts.
The Iron-Feathered Tiger Hawk demonstrated extraordinary combat strength. Despite being a ten-thousand-year soul beast, it showed no disadvantage against the 40,000-year-old Vigorous Vajra Bear.
The Vigorous Vajra Bear was a top-tier soul beast, covered in heavy armor-like scales with incredible strength and defense, making it nearly invincible among soul beasts of the same level. In the original story, Zhao Wuji, a teacher at Shrek Academy, had the Vigorous Vajra Bear as his martial soul. His strength and defense were so formidable that he could break through the defenses of 16 other Soul Emperors during his Soul Emperor stage.
Yet, the Iron-Feathered Tiger Hawk before them was holding its ground, matching the bear's strength and even surpassing it in agility thanks to its large wings. It was a perfect blend of power and agility.
Moreover, the Tiger Hawk's attacks were precise and well-timed. With every dive, its massive claws struck the bear's back, leaving deep gashes. Over time, it was clear the Vigorous Vajra Bear would lose.
"Dad, how old do you think this Iron-Feathered Tiger Hawk is? Over ten thousand, but how much?"
Due to the wide-ranging battlefield, the two kept a considerable distance from the soul beasts, making it difficult for Yang Podi to gauge the Tiger Hawk's exact age.
"This Iron-Feathered Tiger Hawk is about 12 meters long, with each wing spanning 20 meters. Its age should be around 12,000 years, no more than 13,000."
Yang Podi's face lit up with excitement. "Dad, I want this Iron-Feathered Tiger Hawk as my fourth soul ring."
"Son, think this through carefully. The fourth soul ring involves facing spiritual shock. Just a few days ago, you struggled to withstand the spiritual attack of a ten-thousand-year Silver Moon Fox. Absorbing this Tiger Hawk's soul ring could shatter your spirit. Furthermore, although your physical strength can barely handle a soul beast close to ten thousand years, this Tiger Hawk is an exceptional beast, far beyond what you can absorb."
"Dad, just track this Iron-Feathered Tiger Hawk for me. I should be ready to absorb it in two days."
Yang Zhentian felt puzzled by his son's confidence. Even if Yang Podi improved, it seemed impossible to elevate his physical and spiritual strength significantly in such a short time.
Meanwhile, the battlefield between the two soul beasts was in chaos. The Vigorous Vajra Bear, clearly losing, appeared ready to retreat. Soul beasts of this level were notoriously hard to kill.
Seeing his son's determination, Yang Zhentian decided to humor him and see what plan he had in mind.
As the Vigorous Vajra Bear fled into the forest, kicking up clouds of dust, the Iron-Feathered Tiger Hawk relentlessly pursued.
Yang Zhentian instructed his son to stay hidden, then silently moved closer to the beasts' path, waiting patiently.
When the two soul beasts passed his hiding spot, Yang Zhentian seized the moment. As the Tiger Hawk dove at the bear, his martial soul, the Breaking Soul Spear, appeared, accompanied by eight soul rings. One black soul ring flashed, and he thrust his spear toward the Tiger Hawk.
The attack caught the Iron-Feathered Tiger Hawk off guard, as its attention was fully on the bear. It attempted to dodge at the last moment, but the Breaking Soul Spear was already too close.
The Tiger Hawk, incredibly powerful and agile, managed to twist its body, avoiding a fatal strike. However, the spear still pierced its left shoulder, leaving a severe wound that bled profusely.
With a roar, the Tiger Hawk flapped its wings and soared into the sky, moving faster than Yang Zhentian could pursue. Despite being a Soul Douluo, Yang Zhentian couldn't match the speed of this top-tier flying soul beast. Moreover, his goal was only to track the Tiger Hawk, not to kill it, so he refrained from further attacks. Otherwise, the Tiger Hawk would have had a hard time escaping.
Yang Zhentian, ignoring the direction the Tiger Hawk fled, quickly led his son away from the area, wary of the nearby 40,000-year-old Vigorous Vajra Bear.
