Chapter 82: Silver Moon Fox
🕑 Added 2024-11-28 12:18:11 +0000 UTCWhen Yang Podi woke up, his father, Yang Zhentian, was sitting nearby, watching over him.
Yang Podi examined his injuries carefully. "Dad, how long was I out? What happened to me?"
Yang Zhentian responded cautiously, "Last night, we were targeted by a soul beast. You inhaled its emitted energy and fell into an illusion created by it."
He then retrieved the corpse of a white fox from his soul storage device.
The fox wasn't very large, about a meter in length. Its fur was entirely silver-white, without any blemishes, and it looked rather adorable—almost harmless.
"This is a ten-thousand-year Silver Moon Fox, a creature that thrives under the moonlight and can absorb its energy. Last night, this fox set its sights on you."
"Dad, how could such a small soul beast be so dangerous? I'm about to reach the Soul Ancestor stage, yet it still got to me?"
Yang Zhentian smirked. "Your current strength is nothing remarkable. You're not even a true Soul Elder yet. This Silver Moon Fox, with its spiritual power alone, has likely reached the level of a high-ranked Soul King. Moreover, Silver Moon Foxes are naturally gifted in spiritual strength, making them highly sought after by spiritual-type soul masters. If I hadn't noticed in time, things could have ended badly for you."
Yang Podi sighed with regret. "I didn't expect such a small soul beast to be so powerful. It seems I need to be far more cautious in the Star Dou Forest."
"That's right," Yang Zhentian nodded. "The Star Dou Forest is rife with countless dangers, often unpredictable and deadly. Poisonous soul beasts and those specializing in spiritual attacks are particularly deadly, capable of killing without a trace. Even experienced soul masters can fall prey to them."
"This is one reason I've hesitated to bring you here. The dangers of the Star Dou Forest are beyond comparison, especially with your high standards for selecting soul beasts. I worry you'll end up staying here too long."
Yang Podi shook his head, apologizing, "Dad, I underestimated the danger of this place. I won't make that mistake again."
Yang Zhentian, however, smiled. "Podi, danger isn't the real problem. What's more concerning is an unprepared heart. Take the spiritual assault you experienced—it's a good thing for you. Facing challenges like this will gradually strengthen your spiritual power, and you'll learn how to respond and protect yourself in the future."
Yang Podi let out a deep breath, nodding at his father's words. He then took out some medicinal herbs from his soul storage device to treat his injuries.
Reflecting on his father's advice, he realized how true it was. His life thus far had been too smooth, with little hardship or real danger. His adaptability in critical moments was clearly lacking.
A suspicion crept into his mind: Was last night's attack by the Silver Moon Fox something his father had allowed to happen deliberately? Perhaps Yang Zhentian had only intervened when it became truly life-threatening, hoping to teach him a lesson about vigilance. After all, his father was an advanced Soul Douluo. A Soul King-level assault wouldn't escape his notice.
Considering this, Yang Podi asked, "Dad, I've noticed something about our Breaking Clan. None of our members seem to have any group-attack soul skills. Why is that?"
Yang Zhentian smiled. "You're not wrong. Our Breaking Clan rarely possesses group-attack abilities."
"Why is that? Seven Kill Sword, another top-tier weapon-type martial soul, has plenty of group-attacking techniques."
"It's because weapon-type martial souls come in many forms," Yang Zhentian explained. "Take our Breaking Soul Spear, for example—it's a heavy weapon requiring two hands. The Seven Kill Sword, on the other hand, is much lighter and is wielded single-handedly."
"Furthermore, Sword Douluo's ability to perform large-scale attacks isn't just about his soul power. He's mastered the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan's divided focus technique. Additionally, the Seven Kill Sword itself is a relatively light and agile weapon, making it easier to control."
"While the Seven Kill Sword is undoubtedly powerful, especially for group attacks, its single-target damage is not as overwhelming as heavy weapons like the Clear Sky Hammer or our Breaking Soul Spear."
He continued, "Have you heard of the Wind Sword Sect in the Star Luo Empire? They also specialize in swordsmanship, but their martial soul is of a lower grade than the Seven Kill Sword. They focus on flying sword techniques, which require their swords to be light and nimble."
Yang Podi nodded thoughtfully. "So, Dad, does that mean it's nearly impossible for the Breaking Soul Spear to develop group-attack techniques?"
Yang Zhentian chuckled. "It's not entirely impossible, but it's highly impractical. Our Breaking Soul Spear is designed for strength and precision. While Sword Douluo can control multiple swords as his power increases, your spear's weight and combat style would make such techniques inefficient. How many spears could your soul power control simultaneously?"
Hearing this, Yang Podi sighed in resignation. He had envisioned creating a flashy technique like Sword Douluo's Ten Thousand Swords Return to One. But after his father's explanation, he realized how unrealistic that was.
After a two-hour rest, the two resumed their search in the Star Dou Forest's mixed zone.
The forest was indeed teeming with soul beasts. Within half a day, they encountered several noteworthy ones, including a Fiery Berserk Ox and a Ground Bull. Both were excellent strength-type soul beasts with decent ages, but Yang Podi dismissed them as too ordinary.
They even came across a 16,000-year-old Iron Thorn Dragon, a pinnacle of strength-type soul beasts. Yang Podi was captivated and longed to absorb its soul ring. If only its age had been slightly lower, he would have risked absorbing it, even if it meant using the Autumn Dew Elixir to counter potential dangers.
Still unsatisfied, Yang Podi suggested, "Dad, dragon-type soul beasts often live alone, but they can sometimes form small groups. Should we follow this Iron Thorn Dragon for a while? Maybe we'll find something interesting."
Yang Zhentian shook his head. "Podi, let's not waste time. The Iron Thorn Dragon is indeed exceptional, but this type of soul beast usually lives alone or in a small family group. You're unlikely to find a mix of ten-thousand-year and thousand-year companions unless it's a mother with offspring. Let's mark this location and continue searching elsewhere."
Reluctantly, Yang Podi agreed, though he couldn't help but glance back as they left
