"Father, let's not go back just yet. I want to train in the Sunset Forest for a while."
Yang Zhentian was a little puzzled, "Son, you are already a Grand soul Master. You could participate in spirit fights now. The soul arena would be safer in comparison. Why do you want to train in the Sunset Forest?"
Yang Podi thought for a moment but couldn't say the real reason: I can't tell him I'm looking for the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, can I?
"Father, ever since we arrived in the Sunset Forest, I've felt a strange sense of familiarity, as if something here is drawing me in."
Hearing this, Yang Zhentian was intrigued. The last time, before the great battle with the Clear Sky Sect, his son had sensed danger and insisted on leaving the sect to head for Heaven Dou City, ultimately saving the family from heavy losses. Could this be a similar situation?
"Son, what exactly are you feeling? Is something calling to you? Could it be that you're under some kind of illusion cast by a soul beast?"
"Father, if I were under an illusion, wouldn't you, a Soul Sage, have noticed it?"
After discussing the matter for a while, they decided to stay and continue training in the Sunset Forest.
Yang Podi recalled the original story in his mind. There wasn't a clear description of the exact location of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. The only clue was that it was surrounded by a toxic miasma, part of which was created by Dugu Bo. The spring itself also emitted poison, which is why it hadn't been discovered for thousands of years.
As long as they looked for areas with a concentration of toxic gases, they might find the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well.
Thus, the two of them continued their training in the Sunset Forest. Even after reaching the forest's core, they still hadn't found a place with a high concentration of toxins, though they did encounter several powerful soul beasts. The oldest was around seventy to eighty thousand years old, and it frightened them so much that they quickly fled.
A soul beast of that level wasn't something that a mere Soul Sage could handle. Even a Titled Douluo would struggle against it.
They encountered numerous ten-thousand-year soul beasts as well. In fact, it seemed like they ran into several every day. There were plenty of strength-type spirit beasts, but neither of them needed one at the moment. Yang Zhentian was only at level 76 and likely wouldn't reach the rank of Soul Douluo for several more years.
One day, as they passed by a swamp, both of them stopped simultaneously.
"Father, don't you think this place feels strange? Even in a swamp, there should be some soul beasts around, but it's eerily quiet here. Not even insects are making noise."
Yang Zhentian didn't respond at first. He simply pulled his son back, retreating quietly. Only after they had left the swamp did he speak. "Son, you're right. That swamp is indeed odd. There must be something terrible hidden in there."
Yang Podi thought for a moment and suggested, "Father, how about we throw a live soul beast in there and see what happens? That way, we can be more cautious in the future."
"Good idea, son. Wait here. I'll catch a small soul beast."
Yang Zhentian then captured a Soft Bone Rabbit, a common spirit beast in the forest. These rabbits had a strong reproductive ability and were almost impossible to eradicate. They were even considered a pest in some areas, though at the same time, they were a common source of food for the people of Douluo Continent. Aside from being fast runners, they had few other advantages.
Yang Podi couldn't help but think: 'With how weak these Soft Bone Rabbits are, how did Xiao Wu and her mother survive for ten thousand years in the dangerous Star Dou Forest? Not only humans but other soul beasts would be after them too.'
They had caught a ten-year-old Soft Bone Rabbit. The creature trembled violently, especially when they neared the swamp.
Yang Zhentian tossed the rabbit into the center of the swamp as if he were throwing a spear. The Soft Bone Rabbit shivered in terror, as if it sensed something horrifying.
Suddenly, a massive head emerged from the swamp, swallowing the rabbit in one bite. The head alone was five meters wide, with eyes as large as lanterns, sharp teeth, and two small horns growing from its forehead.
"Father, what is that? It looks terrifying."
Yang Zhentian gulped. "Son, we're lucky we kept our distance. That creature... should be a Titan Giant Python, the ultimate form of pythons. Judging by the size of its head, this one might be over a hundred meters long, and it could very well be a hundred-thousand-year soul beast."
"The Titan Giant Python is extremely powerful. Its strength is comparable to some bear-type spirit beasts, and its body temperature can adapt to its surroundings, making it difficult for even Titled Douluo to sense its presence."
Hearing this, Yang Podi felt a wave of fear wash over him. He couldn't believe such a powerful soul beast existed in the Sunset Forest.
"Father, since the Titan Giant Python is so strong, why hasn't anyone tried to capture it? After all, a hundred-thousand-year soul beast is priceless."
"Son, think about it. How big is that swamp? There might be a whole nest of snakes down there. Hunting it would be incredibly difficult."
"Father, how toxic is the Titan Giant Python?"
"The Titan Giant Python's venom is relatively weak. Our family can neutralize it easily. Son, why are you suddenly so interested in poison? Would you like me to teach you how to refine poisons when we return?"
"Let's leave this area first, son. It's too dangerous around here. We'll find a safer place to rest."
They moved far away from the swamp. Although the Titan Giant Python seemed to be staying put, it would still be dangerous if it became aware of their presence.
After finding an open area, Yang Podi let out a sigh. Although he had learned about poison refining and medicine over the past two years, he had never personally handled any of it. In fact, he had no intention of pursuing that path. However, his father and grandfather had always encouraged him to follow that route, as it was one of the foundational skills of their clan.
"Father, I came to the Sunset Forest this time mainly to see if I could find the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well."
"The Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well? That's impossible! While there are indeed records of it in books, no one has ever found it, and it might not even be in the Sunset Forest."
There were also brief mentions of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well in the clan's ancient texts, but no one really believed in its existence.
